Hastings 2 - 5 Grilled

The spectators didn't look too happy about the constant raining at the stadium today. For strong, physical players the heavy rain was easy to overcome, it was even an advantage given their style of play. Others, such as the quick or technical ones, made bleaker appearances. Lineup: Ferrel - Blackbeard, Hirschbeck, Bergsson - da Cruz, Kirk, Rundstck, Yeh, Rudolphi - Sammons, Kortlever.

The following players had been selected: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Webb - An Keng, Mohammad Harun, Keng Chuan, Parvathaneni, Trindade - Ze Han, Xin Seng, Chitre.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 3-5-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 2-5-3. Hastings saw most attack opportunities on the wings by using their extra-terrestrial (16) ability to push the attack in the right direction. Grilled used their extra-terrestrial (16) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Though it was beautiful soccer, the home crowd did not enjoy Bhavya Panigrahi's goal after a run down the left with 13 minutes on the clock. Grilled lead, 0 - 1. After 15 minutes, Grilled's Chan Ze Han burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. Hastings were determined to attack down the sideline and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favor of the wings. The home crowd found their second wind when Cristopher 'Hammer' Rudolphi scored with a header after an industrious attack from the right, making the score 1 to 2. Hardy Ferrel got a fingertip on Moey Xin Seng's shot from the left 22 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. A foul called during a Hastings counter-attack resulted in a great chance to score, but Tomas 'The Flash' Kortlever's shot rattled off the post. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. The visitors' Lim An Keng took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 26 minutes into the match. 1 - 3 for Grilled. A thrilling play through the middle after 31 minutes gave Grilled's Moey Xin Seng a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 1 - 4. Halftime score was 1 - 4. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Lionsclub Pfusistan tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. 46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Kalki Parvathaneni gave Chia Kwang Tse a quick hug as he left the field. After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Bilal Mohammad Harun off. Chad Thach took his place. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Teo Chuan Yong came on for Moey Xin Seng. As the game started to slip away for Hastings, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. The home crowd was briefly mollified when Tomas 'The Flash' Kortlever reduced the lead to 2 - 4 after a brilliant midfield give-and-go through the middle. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 77 minutes on the clock after Craig Kirk's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Hastings player a yellow card though. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. After 90 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Chad Thach who increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 5. The match ends 2 - 5. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 63 percent of possession.

Brandon Yeh performed admirably for Hastings. Good thing Hardy Ferrel isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. I can't remember Gilbert Webb ever having a worse night than he just had.
