FC TTT United trundled out to the pitch in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their mythical (17) ability to attack in the middle. See how
Juhani Koskenniska has had to abandon his regular position to follow
Aw Keng Chuan around? That leaves a big gap for his mates to cover! United took the lead 12 minutes in, after
Jere Kotila's awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. 1 - 0. A wonderful trick by
Gandhik Chitre after 37 minutes left
Rastko Vujnović bewildered and really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save. United added another goal to their lead as
Ville Sinkonen struck home for 2 - 0 after an attack from the left set him up unmarked in front of the keeper. United managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when
Hannu Patoranta slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. After 43 minutes,
Vilkka Torkkeli put United ahead 4 - 0 when he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side. The clock read 44 minutes and things were deteriorating for the away team as United scored another to make it 5 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
Rastko Vujnović. 5 - 0 was the halftime score. United had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.
With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Kalki Parvathaneni looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Chia Kwang Tse, though he would have liked to continue. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Bilal Mohammad Harun reluctantly made way for
Chad Thach. Grilled's coach was furious with
Chad Thach after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. 59 minutes had passed when United put themselves up 6 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to
Vilkka Torkkeli, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Teo Chuan Yong came on for
Moey Xin Seng. United's
Jere Kotila was shown a yellow card after 65 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
United were given a penalty after 66 minutes - neatly put away by
Markus Koskela. 7 - 0 for the home side. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 7 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that United would have 60 percent possession in this half was spot on!
United's best player was
Aapi Huhta. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Juhani Koskenniska sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Gilbert Webb seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
