Grilled 1 - 6 MFC

Clear skies welcomed the spectators who had made their way to the stadium today. Starters: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Webb - Baena, Mohammad Harun, Keng Chuan, Parvathaneni, Trindade - Ze Han, Xin Seng, Chitre.

The following players had been selected: Tessema - Bell, Telfer, Black - Fuller, Crouch, Le Witt, Nveda, Henstock - Krger, Moses.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Magnuskrr FC lined up in a 3-5-2. Grilled used their mythical (17) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 16 minutes into the match, and Don Crouch wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. After 32 minutes, Enrique Baena rushed down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the 1 - 1 goal. The referee showed Grilled's Bhavya Panigrahi the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The bleachers were silenced after 39 minutes when MFC's Cameron Le Witt put the guests ahead 1 - 2, following an attack on the right. After 43 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for David Krger who increased MFC's lead to 1 - 3. 1 - 3 was the score after the first half. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 54 percent possession of the ball.

60 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Kalki Parvathaneni gave Lim An Keng a quick hug as he left the field. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a MFC goal with 61 minutes gone, making it 1 - 4. Preston Fuller was noted down as the scorer. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 69 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because Preston Fuller had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. Alistair Henstock increased the visitors' lead by volleying in a pass from the right. 1 - 5. The away team's Preston Fuller took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 72 minutes increasing MFC's lead to 1 - 6. With the clock showing 75 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Moey Xin Seng looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Teo Chuan Yong, though he would have liked to continue. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 1 - 6. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 51 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Enrique Baena seemed to stumble all over the pitch. MFC's top performer was clearly Preston Fuller. Good thing Garry Telfer isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
