Grilled 2 - 7 Erdoglija
It was a scorching day at the stadium today. It was a very hot day and some players suffered from this, especially those relying on tough physical play or a lot of fast runs. For the technical ones, on the other hand, this was ideal conditions. The following players had been selected:
Germanakos -
Panigrahi,
Webb -
Baena,
Mohammad Harun,
Keng Chuan,
Parvathaneni,
Trindade -
Ze Han,
Velho,
Xin Seng.
They fielded:
Hodžić -
Ferdin,
Erić -
Hupkijević,
Atanacković,
Terzić,
Ramabaja,
Dragović -
Nenadović,
Ljubenović,
Spalević.
Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their utopian (19) ability to great effect. Using their utopian (19) skill, Erdoglija pushed their attacks towards the wings. A mistake by the home side's central defense after 6 minutes allowed
Strahinja Ljubenović to score for Erdoglija. The visitors have the lead, 0 - 1. After 13 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defense allowed
Strahinja Ljubenović to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. With 15 minutes played,
Uroš Nenadović nearly put the visitors up by one more as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot whizzed just over the bar. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. By working their way through the middle, Grilled refused to be intimidated – their efforts finally led to
Moey Xin Seng managing to slip the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 2. Grilled's
Chan Ze Han made a successful breakthrough on the left after 29 minutes and should have tied things up, but instead he sent it over the bar. Erdoglija's
Haris Hodžić startled
Uroš Nenadović with an unexpected pass. Unfortunately, the receiver was too stunned by the play to convert the perfect setup into a goal. Erdoglija had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to go down the wing instead. With 40 minutes played, Erdoglija put themselves up 1 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
Strahinja Ljubenović. That made three goals for
Strahinja Ljubenović. He'll be taking the match ball home with him having scored a hattrick! The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 3. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Erdoglija would have 51 percent possession in this half was spot on!
After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Kalki Parvathaneni off.
Lim An Keng took his place. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
José Luiz Velho reluctantly made way for
Prokop Mottl. Erdoglija's
Tadija Dragović received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 60 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 1 - 4. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! Maybe
Aw Keng Chuan should join the aquatics team instead. He went down dramatically after 61 minutes, crying out with agony as he fell. The referee was not impressed, though, and showed him a yellow for diving. Players in Erdoglija heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. Erdoglija already had the lead, so
Andrej Spalević probably won't be too disappointed that his speculative shot from the right 70 minutes in fell wide of the goal. Erdoglija's
Uroš Nenadović blocked one attack after another by Grilled, finally picking the ball up for himself and powering through towards the goal. It paid off! 1-5 after 70 minutes. 72 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Erdoglija substitution.
Rudolf Rešetár came on for
Andrija Terzić. Erdoglija's coach was furious with
Fadil Hupkijević after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. The home club's fans got back into the match when
Prokop Mottl broke through the visitors' central defense and caught their keeper napping, making it 2 - 5. With the clock showing 80 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Bilal Mohammad Harun looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Chia Kwang Tse, though he would have liked to continue.
Strahinja Ljubenović increased the visitors' lead by volleying in a pass from the right. 2 - 6. 82 minutes into the game, Erdoglija wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Fadil Hupkijević gave
Andrej Kocić a quick hug as he left the field. After 83 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Strahinja Ljubenović who increased Erdoglija's lead to 2 - 7. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 2 - 7. Erdoglija did a good job holding on to the ball, with 52 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han. Good thing
Paulino Trindade isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Most important Erdoglija player was
Haris Hodžić. I can't remember
Danijel 'Laki' Erić ever having a worse night than he just had.
