The coaches were in sync today, as both teams lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled used their utopian (19) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the field. Grilled will have to work out a different routine for indirect free kicks. Though it looked well-rehearsed, their play after 17 minutes was easily anticipated by the opposition and the attackers simply had nowhere to go. 0 - 1 was the score after 19 minutes, when Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni cut through the central defense and pounded one in. A corner kick created massive confusion in the penalty area, with a near-goal by
Paulino Trindade. At last, Grilled's
Enrique Baena was able to will the ball into the net. 0 - 2. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 26 minutes on the clock after
Eddie Milor's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Adg player a yellow card though. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. The visitors'
Aw Keng Chuan took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 40 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Grilled. Given a free kick from a ways out after 41 minutes, Grilled sent an arching ball into the penalty box. It was headed clear, but
Kalki Parvathaneni was waiting just outside the area and fired it home to make it 0 - 4. Halftime score was 0 - 4. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 66 percent possession in this half was spot on!
46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Kalki Parvathaneni gave
Lim An Keng a quick hug as he left the field. 46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Prokop Mottl came on for
Jos Luiz Velho. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. A thrilling play through the middle after 54 minutes gave Grilled's
Chan Ze Han a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 5. It was showtime for artist
Chan Ze Han who demonstrated his technical mastery when he dribbled past
Christian Edme and finished with a goal for Grilled to bring the scoreline to 0 - 6. The away team's
Moey Xin Seng took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 61 minutes increasing Grilled's lead to 0 - 7. 62 minutes into the match,
Moey Xin Seng came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. The home crowd was briefly mollified when
Bicou Jeauvin reduced the lead to 1 - 7 after a brilliant midfield give-and-go through the middle. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot from the right by
Moey Xin Seng beat the keeper with 74 minutes played, preventing Grilled from going up another goal. After 80 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Bilal Mohammad Harun off.
Chia Kwang Tse took his place. The fourth official announced that there would be 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. With the scoreboard showing that 90 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after
Prokop Mottl came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. The match ends 1 - 7. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Millinocket Moose tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Adg's best player was
Jean-Bernard Maignan. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Cyril Jean-Jacques seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han. I can't remember
Paulino Trindade ever having a worse night than he just had.
