Huippu 3 - 2 Grilled

The weather was pretty good at the stadium today for the match. They fielded: Lindqvist - Laivonen, Vihinen, Tomperi, Ahlgren - Vesalainen, Sulin, Sangi, Lintuvuori, Prhl - Yl-Autio.

The following players took the field: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Webb - Baena, Mohammad Harun, Keng Chuan, Parvathaneni, Trindade - Ze Han, Velho, Xin Seng.

Fc Huippu fielded a 4-5-1 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 2-5-3. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their utopian (19) ability to great effect. Sometimes you wonder why a defender wouldn't stay on his feet in a situation like that. Unfortunately for the home fans, the referee had no choice but to award the penalty 12 minutes into the game and Bhavya Panigrahi did his job, making it 0 - 1. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Huippu's Miika Tomperi came in from the right after 17 minutes and put the ball in the net to even the score at 1 - 1. Paul-Erik Lindqvist looked great 30 minutes in after stopping a shot by the visitors' Gilbert Webb. Jos Luiz Velho of Grilled received a yellow card after 31 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. 32 minutes into the game, Moey Xin Seng was a hair's width away from giving Grilled the lead with a shot from the left. A timely dive by Paul-Erik Lindqvist saved the home team on this occasion. Halftime score was 1 - 1. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!

After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Kalki Parvathaneni off. Lim An Keng took his place. 46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Jos Luiz Velho gave Prokop Mottl a quick hug as he left the field. Prokop Mottl came close to putting the visiting team one up 54 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but Paul-Erik Lindqvist managed to tip the ball over. Many thought Teemu Yl-Autio ought to have been awarded a penalty 59 minutes into the match, as he went down trying to beat Dimitris Germanakos after an attack through the middle gave him the one-on-one opportunity. Huippu took the lead 64 minutes in, after Teemu Yl-Autio's awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. 2 - 1. After 72 minutes, Huippu's lack of experience resulted in the team's loss of their edge at the end of the game. Was it the hair gel? Was it a gift from the gods? Either way, the faithful won't care. Soaring like a Saturn V, Bilal Mohammad Harun somehow got his head on a Bhavya Panigrahi moonshot from the corner and buried it in the back of the net. What grace! What power! Plant the flag for Grilled, Neil Armstrong! The score is now 2 - 2. Huippu's Roope Ahlgren tried to break through the middle repeatedly, but the visitors' defenders were just too alert. Tiitus Prhl's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and this time was no different as he broke free of his man to send an on-target through ball to Jarno Vesalainen who knocked it in for Huippu. 3 - 2! 80 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Chia Kwang Tse came on for Bilal Mohammad Harun. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 3 - 2. Huippu did a good job holding on to the ball, with 51 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

Teemu Yl-Autio performed admirably for Huippu. Good thing Paul-Erik Lindqvist isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. Speaking of stinking up the place, Enrique Baena sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
