Nightstar 2 fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 2-5-3. Nightstar were mostly trying to use their mythical (17) skill at attacking on the flanks. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (20) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. With 7 minutes played
Andrea Schiesaro almost gave the home side the lead with a clever free kick, but the visitors'
Dimitris Germanakos was onto it, grabbing the would-be breakthrough ball. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. A mistake by the home side's central defense after 16 minutes allowed
Teo Chuan Yong to score for Grilled. The visitors have the lead, 0 - 1. Given a free kick from a ways out after 21 minutes, Grilled sent an arching ball into the penalty box. It was headed clear, but
Chan Ze Han was waiting just outside the area and fired it home to make it 0 - 2. Nightstar were determined to attack down the sideline and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favor of the wings.
Ryan Walker-Marcel almost lowered the gap having danced through the entire left side of the defense, but the shot went straight into the arms of the goalkeeper. After 37 minutes, Grilled raised their score by one when
Paulino Trindade's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
Kalki Parvathaneni. 0 - 3. Nightstar reduced the lead to 1 - 3 after 39 minutes when
Jan Adelner got the best of a lazy ball floated in from the left side. 1 - 3 was the score after the first half. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!
After 65 minutes, Nightstar sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
Tursun Poziljonov, who had plenty of time to shoot and score - 2 - 3. While defending the Grilled lead,
Aw Keng Chuan got a new role. 69 minutes in the game, his coach ordered him to change places with
Bhavya Panigrahi. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Bhavya Panigrahi reluctantly made way for
Lim An Keng. As
Bhavya Panigrahi left the field, the coach signaled to
Gilbert Webb to start taking the set pieces that occurred. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Kalki Parvathaneni gave
Mohd Marzuki Khairul a quick hug as he left the field. After the ball was lifted in from the left,
Moey Xin Seng was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 73 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. 76 minutes into the match, Nightstar's
Quirijn Ravensbergen maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 3 - 3. Feeling like a boy about to meet his girlfriend's father for the first time, the inexperienced Nightstar struggled to maintain their level of play after 78 minutes. Nightstar had a good opportunity to take the lead as
Jan Adelner came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of
Dimitris Germanakos. After 80 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Bilal Mohammad Harun off.
Chia Kwang Tse took his place. Grilled's
Lim An Keng managed to lose the defenders as he burst through the right side and scored, putting the visitors ahead, 3 - 4. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Nightstar's
Laureano Santos Tavares came in from the right after 81 minutes and put the ball in the net to even the score at 4 - 4. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 4 - 4. Nightstar did a good job holding on to the ball, with 51 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
The most outstanding Nightstar player was without a doubt
Bernard Feudjio. I can't remember
Tursun Poziljonov ever having a worse night than he just had. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han. Good thing
Paulino Trindade isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
