Deinos 3 - 0 Grilled

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Fossil Park saw a crowd turnout of 64063. Edgardo Lucente was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Yannick Mangombo and Buster Gaskell-Bhuller. Deinos's lineup was: Răducu - Biliotti, Koren, Chao Ah, Ridwan, Pérez Ponce - Schlattmeier, Long Hock, Abd El Khalek, Eng Dong - Salvans.

Grilled's starters: Germanakos - Panigrahi, Webb - Baena, An Keng, Keng Chuan, Khairul, Chuan Yong - Ze Han, Xin Seng, Mohammad Harun.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 5-4-1 formation while the visitors instead opted for 2-5-3. Deinos was determined to use their solid (7) long shot ability. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Grilled, taking advantage of their solid (7) level with that tactic. At this time in the match, Grilled were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. After 28 minutes Deinos showed some great patience outside the penalty area, waiting until Cheah Eng Dong could find the right opportunity to finish off the attack from distance. The long shot, however, was an easy catch for Dimitris Germanakos. Deinos were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 36 minutes, Alejandro Pérez Ponce swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 1 - 0. After 38 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Deinos was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. After 41 minutes, Deinos were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. Ong 'Kryptonite' Chao Ah did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. 42 minutes into the game, Grilled's Bhavya Panigrahi took a seemingly painful knock to his chest. However, he gritted his teeth and decided to play on. The Deinos free kick 43 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of Ong 'Kryptonite' Chao Ah, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 2 - 0! The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0. Deinos enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.

Enrique Baena would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Paulino Trindade entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 46 minutes. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Lim An Keng reluctantly made way for Chia Kwang Tse on the pitch. Deinos put themselves up 3 - 0 when Abd El Rahman Abd El Khalek broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. Deinos aimed on setting a long distance shooter in position, but the pressing from the defence made it really tough. The pressure from the defence was so tight that the defenders were almost inside the attackers' shorts, and after 66 minutes the defence easily managed to block a shot. Faust Salvans had a fantastic opportunity to put Deinos up another goal 66 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. Fokko Schlattmeier should probably have put his team up another goal after 69 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Dimitris Germanakos kept the visitors in the game. With 79 minutes played, Deinos's Cheah Eng Dong almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. 85 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Bilal Mohammad Harun gave Kalki Parvathaneni a quick hug as he left the field. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 minute beyond the regular 90 minutes. After 89 minutes, Grilled attempted an attack but had to cede the ball in frustration. They could not find their way through the mighty Chew Long Hock, who acted as an effective roadblock on Deinos's defensive midfield. The match ends 3 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Deinos, with 58 percent of the ball.

Deinos's top performer was clearly Cheah Eng Dong. Fokko Schlattmeier on the other hand, had a terrible day. Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. Paulino Trindade turned in a dismal performance, however.
