It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 3-5-2. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their titanic (15) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. After 6 minutes of play, the free-spirited
Chad Thach decided to aim straight for the goal as he struck from the corner of the field. The ball deflected off a defender and went out of bounds. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. Some great play up the middle by Grilled led to a chance for
Chad Thach to get the go-ahead goal with 8 minutes played, but the shot hit the crossbar. The 26 minute mark saw the home team take a 1 - 0 lead after a breaking through on the left. The scorer for Grilled was
Moey Xin Seng.
Giuliano Vico of Barbieri received a yellow card after 35 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. After a play down the right 36 minutes into the match, Grilled's
Lau Chu Soon unleashed a ferocious shot that smashed into the roof of the net - after going over the crossbar. The home team thought they were lucky after a brilliant strike from the right bounced off the crossbar 37 minutes in.
Lachlan Sergeant was first to react though, and leveled the game at 1 - 1. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
Bilal Mohammad Harun gave Grilled the 2 - 1 lead, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball at the keeper's right post – what a clinical finish! Grilled's
Bilal Mohammad Harun saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates 40 minutes in. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 68 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.
46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chia Kwang Tse gave
Lim An Keng a quick hug as he left the field. It was a fine day for
Lau Chu Soon down the touchline, and his cross to
Moey Xin Seng 52 minutes in was executed especially well, but the keeper saved the ensuing shot. Coming in from the right,
Mohd Marzuki Khairul almost managed to score another goal for Grilled, but his header was kept out by the lightning fast reflexes of the visiting keeper. After 60 minutes, the Barbieri coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Giancarlo Marazzina off.
Emiliano Coda took his place. Grilled managed to extend their lead to 3 - 1 when
Moey Xin Seng slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. After 64 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
Aw Keng Chuan might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However,
Roby Ducco made a spectacular save.
Bilal Mohammad Harun was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 67 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. Grilled's
Aw Keng Chuan was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 68 minutes. With the clock showing 75 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Chad Thach looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Paulino Trindade, though he would have liked to continue. 75 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
Enrique Baena came on for
Lau Chu Soon. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Barbieri's
Lachlan Sergeant finally got himself booked for a foul.
Bilal Mohammad Harun had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 76 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. The fourth official announced that there would be 1 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 3 - 1. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Disgustin tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt
Teo Chuan Yong. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Aw Keng Chuan sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Barbieri's top performer was clearly
Emiliano Coda. I can't remember
Roby Ducco ever having a worse night than he just had.
