Ramseille 1 - 5 Grilled

29538 punters turned up at HighVolliard Park, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Teddy Vulcan was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Atilio Altuna and Carlos Castanheira. The derby had been the talk of Jurong all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. The following players took the field for Ramseille: Buffon - Ramberg, Lõhmus, Moreno, Eliava, Bačnar - Sonino, Esinay, Robert, Reeperbahn - Lamm.

Grilled's lineup was: Salmiņš - Panigrahi, Carapaica - Kannan, Mohammad Harun, Xin Seng, Chuan Yong, Dong Chu - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Parvathaneni.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 5-4-1 formation while the visitors instead opted for 2-5-3. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Ramseille on this day, taking advantage of their magical (18) level with that tactic. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+4) (24) level with that tactic. Leopold Lõhmus was ever so close to scoring after an excellent corner was beautifully flicked on by Elías Moreno, but the ball bounced off the post to safety. 9 minutes into the match, Grilled nearly took the lead, as Douglas Carapaica broke through on the right. Giancarlo Buffon made the save, however. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. 0 - 1 was the score with 12 minutes played, after Chan Ze Han cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Grilled. After 14 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Moey Xin Seng a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2. 34 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Kalki Parvathaneni finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. After 36 minutes, Grilled's Chan Ze Han burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 65 percent of the time.

46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Chu Xin Lee came on for Moey Xin Seng. As the captain was no longer on the pitch, Chan Ze Han took over the role of being the Grilled captain. The Grilled players could smell victory in the air. Chan Ze Han wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud after 46 minutes. Vikram Mudaliar became the new Grilled captain. Steinar Ramberg was in the clear after breaking the offside trap following a Ramseille counterattack from the left after 53 minutes. His neat finish made the score 1 - 4. The visitors' Vikram Mudaliar took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 58 minutes into the match. 1 - 5 for Grilled. After 60 minutes Sergio Sonino could have reduced the lead with a blistering strike from the left wing, had it not been for an excellent block by the visitors' keeper. 79 minutes in, Ramseille's Sergio Sonino received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. With the scoreboard showing that 80 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after Kalki Parvathaneni came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud was, after 84 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper Giancarlo Buffon made the save. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Shekar Kannan off the field. José Luiz Velho took his place. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 5. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 69 percent.

Steinar Ramberg performed admirably for Ramseille. Leopold Lõhmus turned in a dismal performance, however. Grilled's top performer was clearly Vikram Mudaliar. However, José Luiz Velho made a disastrous appearance.
