Before the game, a club-sponsored display was put on, honouring the old-time heroes of the Grilled Hall of Fame.

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 25959 to Tarpots Rec.. Héctor Arce was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Terje Andersen and Mathieu Behrman. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players had been chosen by newbies: Goričanec - Tung, Long Kok, Wan Yau - Choon An, Keng Jia, Ping Keong, Syarif, Kalyuzhin - Šnyras, Kalata.

Grilled fielded: Salmiņš - Webb, Carapaica - Kamel, Chuan Yong, Mohammad Harun, Xin Seng, Dong Chu - Parvathaneni, Mudaliar, Ze Han.

The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team newbies are newbies went for 3-5-2 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled used their divine (+5) (25) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. 11 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for newbies to take the lead after a good cross from the right found Martin Tung alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. Grilled's Salah Kamel gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 29 minutes with a superb strike from the right. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. After 38 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Moey Xin Seng who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 2. 40 minutes into the match, the speedy Vikram Mudaliar easily outpaced Wong Long Kok, chipped the keeper and made the score 0 - 3. With 41 minutes played, Vincentis Šnyras was very close to reducing the score for newbies with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot to a corner. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. newbies claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.

With 48 minutes played, Douglas Carapaica nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. Douglas Carapaica was, after 58 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper Ivan Goričanec made the save. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Salah Kamel from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 63 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Grilled came close to extending their lead as Salah Kamel delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 70 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. A late sliding challenge from Salah Kamel was deemed to be his second yellow card offence by the referee, resulting in him being sent off, and Grilled left a man down. After 84 minutes, Kalki Parvathaneni sprinted between the opposing defenders and squared the ball, but the keeper deflected Heng Dong Chu's shot. 86 minutes into the match newbies's Wan Wadi Syarif viciously shoved another player from behind while going for a loose ball and was sent off the pitch with a red card. Li Choon An was ever so close to scoring after an excellent corner was beautifully flicked on by Vincentis Šnyras, but the ball bounced off the post to safety. After the ball was lifted in from the left, Chan Ze Han was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 88 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 0 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to newbies, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.

The most dominating newbies player was without a doubt Ang Keng Jia. Li Choon An on the other hand, had a terrible day. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. Gilbert Webb turned in a dismal performance, however.
