flops 2 - 5 Grilled
The 53440 spectators at
Ang Moh Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Franck Cardon was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
廖 (Liao) 轩棕 (Xuanzong) and
Ubaldo Ughetto. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. The following players had been chosen by flops:
Rosário -
Ionescu,
Angel -
Ascher,
Henni,
Rivas,
Öztan,
Zacho -
Arosio,
Mokhtar,
Virtuani.
Grilled fielded:
Salmiņš -
Webb,
Carapaica -
Kamel,
Mohammad Harun,
Chuan Yong,
Xin Seng,
Parvathaneni -
Mudaliar,
Mazhud,
Ze Han.
The teams both lined up their players in 2-5-3 formations. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+4) (24) level with that tactic. flops broke through on the left 2 minutes into the game, with
Vincenzo Arosio firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. The referee showed Grilled's
Douglas Carapaica the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. It emerged that
Jonathan Federico Rivas had hurt his left foot after 3 minutes, which led him to abandon the game. This gave
Samuel Felix Schütte a chance to take to the field instead.
Haiko Ascher became the new flops captain. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. 14 minutes into the game Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng found a gap in the home side's central defence and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 1 - 1. 21 minutes into the game, flops's
Amani Mokhtar took a seemingly painful knock to his chest. However, he gritted his teeth and decided to play on. Always a threat,
Kalki Parvathaneni tore past his marker and placed the ball right at the feet of the waiting
Vikram Mudaliar who should have easily scored for Grilled, but the ball went wide. After 27 minutes of play,
Samuel Felix Schütte gave the home team a 2 - 1 lead after an attack coming in from the right. With 32 minutes played,
Carmelo Virtuani of flops fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Grilled levelled the score after 33 minutes to make it 2 - 2, as
Kalki Parvathaneni struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. 35 minutes into the match flops's
Kurt Zacho viciously shoved another player from behind while going for a loose ball and was sent off the pitch with a red card. 2 - 2 was the score after the first half. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.
With 47 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
Douglas Carapaica put the ball away for 2 - 3. 63 minutes into the match, the speedy
Kalki Parvathaneni easily outpaced
Darius Ionescu, chipped the keeper and made the score 2 - 4. Had it not been for one of the home defenders,
Teo Chuan Yong would have put Grilled up another goal 64 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. 67 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a flops substitution.
Laurin Étienne Zrost came on for
Haiko Ascher. As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
Samuel Felix Schütte took over the role of being the flops captain. Grilled's
Teo Chuan Yong was shown a yellow card after 67 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
When
Douglas Carapaica made yet another studs-first tackle after 74 minutes, the referee was obliged to book the Grilled player for the second time, sending him off the pitch. An amazing free kick flew past the home keeper 78 minutes into the match, putting Grilled ahead 2 - 5.
Gilbert Webb was the scorer. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let
Chu Xin Lee replace
Vikram Mudaliar after 79 minutes. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Salah Kamel reluctantly made way for
Shekar Kannan on the pitch. With the scoreboard showing that 81 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after
Teo Chuan Yong came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 5 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 2 - 5. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.
flops's best player was
Amani Mokhtar.
Nani Rosário on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Chan Ze Han.
Kalki Parvathaneni was a disappointment, however.
