Fringeheads 6 - 4 Grilled

Dark skies made the crowd of 87000 at Sarcastic Fringehead Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Valentin Brebeanu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Henry Cull and Ambrosi Lochner. Fringeheads's starters: Gomes Oliveira - Apatič, Borichev, Longari - Foppa, Vayeshnoi, Bengtsson, Muntazir, Illes - Karlsson, Andreassen.

The following players took the field for Grilled: Salmiņš - Panigrahi, Webb - Kannan, Xin Lee, Kamel, Xin Seng, Parvathaneni - Mudaliar, Mazhud, Ze Han.

Sarcastic Fringeheads entered the field in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled used their divine (+7) (27) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. They were singing the praises of Finn Karlsson 23 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Fringeheads. After 24 minutes, following yet another great corner, Vikram Mudaliar's flick on at the near post reached Gilbert Webb, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick. After 25 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Grilled was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. The referee was not popular with the home supporters after he awarded Grilled a controversial penalty after 28 minutes. Bhavya Panigrahi made no mistake, levelling the score at 1 - 1. After 34 minutes of play, Heine Andreassen gave the home team a 2 - 1 lead after an attack coming in from the right. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Fringeheads to 3 - 1 as Finn Karlsson finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. Fringeheads's Bashar Muntazir increased the lead to 4 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 40 minutes. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Moey Xin Seng from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 41 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! It was 4 - 1 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Fringeheads, with 52 percent of the ball.

Fringeheads's Mel Vayeshnoi got himself booked for a foul. 55 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Fringeheads substitution. Víctor Morillo came on for Ivan Borichev. Kalki Parvathaneni made a nice dash down the wing after 62 minutes, but was unable to get the cross into the box. A goal kick was awarded. Gilbert Webb would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Douglas Carapaica entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 65 minutes. Fringeheads managed to extend their lead to 5 - 1 when Heine Andreassen cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. 70 minutes into the game, Fringeheads wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Finn Karlsson gave Ryan Kerr a quick hug as he left the field. The crowd roared its approval when Artur Rosa Gomes Oliveira somehow managed to block a shot which seemed to be a certain goal by Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar 76 minutes into the game, following a good move through the middle. Proving his experience, Vikram Mudaliar scored 5 - 2 for Grilled after putting some pressure on the opposing defence at a critical moment. After 80 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Kalki Parvathaneni off the field. Heng Dong Chu took his place. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. The visitors replied 82 minutes into the game, reducing the home side's lead to 5 - 3, as Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud dashed up the middle, easily lobbing the ball over the home team's keeper. After 84 minutes, Ryan Kerr put Fringeheads ahead 6 - 3 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. As the 85 minute mark approached, the Fringeheads coach decided it was time for a substitution. Marco Foppa reluctantly made way for Zaki Taleb on the pitch. The home team's fans were upset when, after 86 minutes, the visiting Douglas Carapaica broke through the central defence and kicked the ball past the keeper. 6 - 4 was the score. After 89 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud off the field. José Luiz Velho took his place. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 4 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 6 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to Fringeheads, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.

Fringeheads's top performer was clearly Heine Andreassen. Zaki Taleb turned in a dismal performance, however. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. Bhavya Panigrahi was a disappointment, however.
