Villains F.C. fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. Grilled used their divine (+6) (26) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 2 minutes in when
Kalki Parvathaneni came up alone against
Zvjezdan Ražić who managed a block. After a fine move down the middle
Timotej Klarič nearly gave the home side a goal after 25 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. The referee showed Villains's
Ciprian Huiet the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 0 - 1 was the score with 37 minutes played, after
Moey Xin Seng cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Grilled.
Vladimír Hanák managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but
Giovanni Trombetta was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off. Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Villains, but
Wong Jian Yew's shot went over the bar. The home crowd cheered when, after 41 minutes,
Moey Xin Seng's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi got himself booked for a foul. Villains's
Andrej Khramenkou hurt his back 42 minutes into the match, and had to be convinced by the medical team that it was safer not to continue the match.
Foong Shi Soon tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day.
Timotej Klarič was the new captain of Villains - handed the armband by the departing player. Grilled's
Salah Kamel made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 44 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Villains, with 53 percent of the ball.
Villains tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. 52 minutes into the game, Grilled worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
Kalki Parvathaneni came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
Zvjezdan Ražić but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
Sigmund Johnsen stunned the crowd with a brilliant counterattack from the left, giving Villains the goal to make it 1 - 1. 70 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Douglas Carapaica came on for
Sølve Lunde. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Chu Xin Lee gave
Teo Chuan Yong a quick hug as he left the field. 71 minutes into the match, Grilled nearly took the lead, as
Kalki Parvathaneni broke through on the right.
Zvjezdan Ražić made the save, however. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Salah Kamel reluctantly made way for
Bilal Mohammad Harun on the pitch. The referee announced 1 minute of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 1 - 1. Villains claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.
Most important Villains player was
Sigmund Johnsen.
Foong Shi Soon on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. On the other hand,
Bilal Mohammad Harun's play was disheartening.
