Football 12 - 11 Grilled
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 31850 that came out to
Tarpots Rec..
Dimitar Tzonevski was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jayson Wagon and
Walther Ehrenberger. The weather was sunny, which meant perfect conditions for technical players in both teams. However, it was also quite warm, which meant quick or physically strong players were drained faster and couldn't play their best game. The match took place on neutral ground. Football fielded:
Koenigsegg -
Licciardello,
Jakobsen,
Noguera,
Brettoni,
Fiks -
Chappell,
Vrubelevsky,
Linskens,
Gulyás,
Algüzar -.
The following players had been chosen by Grilled:
Salmiņš -
Panigrahi,
Lunde -
Kannan,
Xin Lee,
Chuan Yong,
Kamel,
Dong Chu -
Mazhud,
Mudaliar,
Ze Han.
Robbie Football Club started the game in a 5-5-0 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Going for long shots seemed to be the pick of the day for Football, taking advantage of their divine (+2) (22) level with that tactic. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+5) (25) level with that tactic. After 25 minutes,
Pier Giuseppe Licciardello sent the corner kick right to
Jonas Vrubelevsky who headed it sharply past the keeper. 1 - 0! 27 minutes into the game Grilled's
Chan Ze Han found a gap in the home side's central defence and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 1 - 1.
Sølve Lunde looked like he could fly, as he rose high to head the ball. Unfortunately for Grilled, the ball went just barely wide.
Vikram Mudaliar went down after twisting his right ankle after 29 minutes, and had to leave the pitch.
Moey Xin Seng tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.
The goal for 2 - 1 was a funny story: after 49 minutes the seemingly nonchalant lob from Football's
Darius Linskens landed at the feet of
Ally Chappell who sidefooted it into the net - nice goal! Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Coming through the middle
Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud almost scored the equaliser for Grilled after 56 minutes, but
Dennis Koenigsegg made an excellent save, tipping the awkward curled shot past the post. Grilled had a chance to level the scores as
Chan Ze Han suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Shekar Kannan gave
Kalki Parvathaneni a quick hug as he left the field. The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 73 minutes,
Teo Chuan Yong broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper.
Dennis Koenigsegg made a great block, though. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. Grilled levelled the score after 90 minutes to make it 2 - 2, as
Chan Ze Han struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. The referee showed Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
95 minutes into the game, a swerving free kick by
Pier Giuseppe Licciardello almost resulted in the home team taking the lead, but the shot glanced harmlessly off the frame of the goal. 119 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Gilbert Webb came on for
Sølve Lunde. With the score still deadlocked after extra time, the teams took to the field for a penalty shoot-out to decide the winner.
Football's

Dennis Koenigsegg. 3 - 3. Football's

Dennis Koenigsegg performed admirably for Football.
Ernesto Noguera was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Chan Ze Han.
Kalki Parvathaneni turned in a dismal performance, however.
