Grilled 0 - 4 Fringeheads

The crowd of 69372 turning up at The Cooking Pot today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Nick Bartikam was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Daniel Kompanowski and Jay St. John. The pitch was a disaster, due to all the rain. This spelled problems for the more sophisticated players, who usually could rely on speed or technique. For those relying on grit and strength, it actually meant an edge. The following players took the field for Grilled: Salmiņš - Panigrahi, Lunde - Dong Chu, Xin Lee, Mohammad Harun, Xin Seng, Parvathaneni - Mudaliar, Mazhud, Ze Han.

The following players had been chosen by Fringeheads: Gomes Oliveira - Apatič, Vayeshnoi, Bărbulescu, 健铭 (Jianming), Longari - Illes, Muntazir, Bengtsson, Foppa - Karlsson.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Sarcastic Fringeheads lined up in a 5-4-1 formation. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+7) (27) ability to attack in the middle. Fringeheads clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could, taking advantage of their divine (+1) (21) level with that tactic. Bogdan Bărbulescu was well positioned to man mark Chan Ze Han, and was able to take the edge off the Grilled player's game. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Finn Karlsson was in the clear after breaking the offside trap following a Fringeheads counterattack from the left after 10 minutes. His neat finish made the score 0 - 1. Grilled's Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud made an attempt at equalising 11 minutes into the match, coming in from the right, but the ball hit the post and the defence easily cleared the rebound. Fringeheads's Lillebror Bengtsson got himself booked for a foul. 19 minutes in, Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Bhavya Panigrahi could have scored for Grilled with his free kick after 20 minutes, but the visitors' keeper just managed to get a hand on it. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. 26 minutes into the game, Finn Karlsson finished off a Fringeheads left wing counterattack, making the score 0 - 2. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Chu Xin Lee off the field. Salah Kamel took his place. Some fine movement on the left led to a Fringeheads goal after 49 minutes, making it 0 - 3. Gareth Illes was noted down as the scorer. Bhavya Panigrahi received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 50 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. Kalki Parvathaneni's speed was almost enough to give Grilled a goal after 55 minutes, but his nice pass to Chan Ze Han was not taken care of properly. As the 64 minute mark approached, the Fringeheads coach decided it was time for a substitution. 黄 (Huang) 健铭 (Jianming) reluctantly made way for Ivan Borichev on the pitch. Grilled's opponents know to be wary of Vikram Mudaliar's speed, but it made little difference as he flew past the defence 72 minutes into the game. Only the keeper could stop him - and he did with a perfectly timed dive! 75 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Douglas Carapaica came on for Sølve Lunde. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 1 minute as stoppage time. Finn Karlsson of Fringeheads took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 89 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 4. This third goal completed a hattrick for Finn Karlsson. The match ends 0 - 4. Grilled had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.

Grilled's best player was Jānis Salmiņš. However, Chan Ze Han made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Fringeheads player was without a doubt Lillebror Bengtsson. Bogdan Bărbulescu turned in a dismal performance, however.
