Grilled 3 - 2 Olbrzym

The clouds were hanging menacingly over the stadium today. Lineup: Salmiņš - Carapaica, Lunde - Kamel, Chuan Yong, Xin Lee, Mohammad Harun, Dong Chu - Ze Han, Mazhud, Xin Seng.

The following players had been selected: Osilama - Dobosz, Moreno Palacios, Bęben, Baruch, Bistričić - Mołczan, Trzeszkowski, Laferla, Loh, Gostkowski -.

Grilled Birds trundled out to the pitch in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, Olbrzym P-ń, chose to start the game with a 5-5-0 lineup. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle. Like a mighty wizard in the hellish lair of the balrog, Olbrzym is aiming to smother the Hephaestian flames of attack with magnificent (12) skill. Trespass is forbidden! Alas, Balrog, you shall not pass! Leslie Laferla had been tasked with man marking Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud. He did this well, but often fell out of position doing so, forcing his team mates to cover for him. Olbrzym's talent at pressing frustrated their opponents and the fans as the game became a stalemate in the middle of the park. Chan Ze Han gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball at the keeper's right post – what a clinical finish! A beautiful, arcing corner kick from Teo Chuan Yong found Sølve Lunde at the far post, soaring to meet the ball. The keeper is late and he's headed it in for 2 - 0! After 31 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Chu Xin Lee might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However, Alhaji Osilama made a spectacular save. After 32 minutes Olbrzym tried to use their counter-attacking skills. Unfortunately, Walerian Gostkowski's shot sailed wide after his break down the right. Olbrzym pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a deadlock at times. Bilal Mohammad Harun was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 39 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 63 percent possession in this half was spot on!

46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Kalki Parvathaneni came on for Salah Kamel. The bench was restless, and with 60 minutes gone Olbrzym's coach gave Marcin Wojtakowski the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. Leslie Laferla reluctantly left the field. The Olbrzym captaincy was handed to Grgur Bistričić. Olbrzym needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 60 minutes Grgur Bistričić made way for Kazimierz Solecki. Alhaji Osilama became the new Olbrzym captain. The Olbrzym players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. After 61 minutes, Olbrzym used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. As the game started to slip away for Olbrzym, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. 66 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as Moey Xin Seng ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 3 - 0 for Grilled. Grilled's Abd Hadi Taib Mazhud saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates 67 minutes in. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Moey Xin Seng reluctantly made way for Vikram Mudaliar. As the captain was no longer on the field, Chan Ze Han took over the role for Grilled. The visitors replied 71 minutes into the game, reducing the lead to 3 - 1, as Kazimierz Solecki dashed up the middle and chipped the ball over the home team's keeper. The home team's lead was reduced to 3 - 2 after Olbrzym's Jacek Trzeszkowski took advantage of a misunderstanding in the center of the defense. With the clock showing 80 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Douglas Carapaica looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Gilbert Webb, though he would have liked to continue. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 1 minutes as stoppage time. Olbrzym's ability to press all over the field paid off frequently. The match ends 3 - 2. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 62 percent of possession.

Most important Grilled player was Chan Ze Han. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Kalki Parvathaneni seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The most outstanding Olbrzym player was without a doubt Marcin Wojtakowski. Good thing Alhaji Osilama isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
