Grilled 4 - 1 Manchester

78196 punters turned up at The Cooking Pot, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Tomasz Jasiuk was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Garry Prahladsingh and Alberto Aeppli. The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Salmiņš - Carapaica, Webb - Xin Lee, Chuan Yong, Mohammad Harun, ter Berg, Dong Chu - Ze Han, Egan, Xin Seng.

Manchester's starters: Tovtuk - Cruzul, Gilmont - Saunov, Abdul Rahman, Skrt, Chin Chi, Fiore - Haugaard, Dalen, Święcicki.

2-5-3 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Grilled tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+7) (27) level with that tactic. Manchester clearly preferred using their divine (+2) (22) ability to attack in the middle. Manchester had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Jānis Salmiņš looked great 10 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' Dejan Skrt. 11 minutes into the game, a swerving free kick by Gilbert Webb almost resulted in the home team taking the lead, but the shot glanced harmlessly off the frame of the goal. Following a brutal collision in the 13, Manchester's Ejler Haugaard complained of a damaged shoulder. The medics took a look and immediately ordered a substitution. The player that took his place was Pierre-Étienne Marguet. Ejler Haugaard was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that Pierre-Étienne Marguet got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. Grilled broke through on the left 23 minutes into the game, with Teo Chuan Yong firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Chu Xin Lee squirmed through their central defence after 25 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0. Manchester's Viktor Saunov was shown a yellow card after 27 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Kalle ter Berg should probably have put his team up another goal after 34 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Izydor Tovtuk kept the visitors in the game. A lovely run by Manchester's Dejan Skrt left his markers for dead and should have resulted in a goal, but the finish went just wide. Grilled increased the lead as Chu Xin Lee struck to make the score 3 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

It was obvious that team Manchester had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. With 47 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock, Manchester showed some good skill and were able to reduce the score to 3 - 1 when Sim Chin Chi got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal. Izydor Tovtuk was caught napping as Gilbert Webb lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms. The visitors got a chance to pull one back after 52 minutes, as the home defence went to sleep, leaving Viktor Saunov completely unmarked in the middle. His strike was pathetic though, and dribbled into the arms of the home side's keeper. 53 minutes into the match Gilbert Webb put Grilled ahead 4 - 1 with a truly marvelous free kick. Manchester's opponents know to be wary of Horst Friedrich Dalen's speed, but it made little difference as he flew past the defence 60 minutes into the game. Only the keeper could stop him - and he did with a perfectly timed dive! After 70 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Gilbert Webb off the field. Mateja Jeftić took his place. With Gilbert Webb no longer on the pitch, Mateja Jeftić became the new set pieces taker. Moey Xin Seng would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Vikram Mudaliar entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 70 minutes. Chan Ze Han was handed the Grilled captain's armband. As the 85 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Chu Xin Lee reluctantly made way for 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) on the pitch. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! Bernie Egan could have increased the lead after 89 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. The match ends 4 - 1. Grilled had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. However, Mateja Jeftić made a disastrous appearance. Most important Manchester player was Horst Friedrich Dalen. Marcelino Fiore was a disappointment, however.
