Xaviers 6 - 5 Grilled

31312 spectators had come to Tarpots Rec. this cloudy day. Jérôme Schöppenthau was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kornelius Enkheim and Aldo Katalenić. The match took place on neutral ground. Xaviers's lineup was: Chin Jun - 生 (Sheng), Yadav - Sethi, Chin, Nie Jie, Chu, Yi Yew - Tian Jin, Mamidi, Domşa.

The following players took the field for Grilled: Salmiņš - Lunde, Jeftić - Kamel, ter Berg, Mohammad Harun, Chuan Yong, Parvathaneni - Egan, Ze Han, Xin Seng.

As the teams prepared to start the match, they both lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when Sølve Lunde slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against Law Chin Jun, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. The terraces were silenced after 23 minutes when Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. 26 minutes in, and Xaviers were able to score the equalising goal to make it 1 - 1 when Li Nie Jie picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. After 30 minutes, Grilled's Bernie Egan swiftly ran past Rahul Yadav and nutmegged the keeper! 1 - 2. After 33 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Kalle ter Berg a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 3. Grilled's Sølve Lunde was shown a yellow card after 35 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when Sorin Domşa tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. Jānis Salmiņš was too alert for that! Xaviers supporters cheered as good work down the right got the ball to Ho Yi Yew who reduced the visitors' lead after 42 minutes to 2 - 3. 2 - 3 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Xaviers, with 55 percent of the ball.

The Xaviers players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. Kalki Parvathaneni would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Heng Dong Chu entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 46 minutes. After 60 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Salah Kamel who increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 4. After 65 minutes, Xaviers used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. Xaviers refused to be intimidated and, breaking through the middle, Seow Tian Jin managed to slip the ball home for 3 - 4. Grilled increased their lead after 71 minutes when Kalle ter Berg broke through on the right, upping the score to 3 - 5, much to the home crowd's dismay. As the game started to slip away for Xaviers, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. The Xaviers coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Kalle ter Berg from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 75 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Rahul Yadav went down after twisting his right ankle after 75 minutes, and had to leave the pitch. Zubaidi Izzat Aizat Amrin tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. With Rahul Yadav no longer on the pitch, Seow Tian Jin took over free kick duty. Xaviers's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 77 minutes into the match as Seow Tian Jin ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 4 - 5. With 80 minutes having been played, Xaviers scored to make it 5 - 5. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but Ho Yi Yew was marked down as the scorer. Xaviers took the lead 84 minutes in, as Seow Tian Jin broke through on the left and put the 6 - 5 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. By then Seow Tian Jin had scored three goals - a hat trick! As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 4 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 6 - 5. Possession in this half belonged to Xaviers, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

Xaviers's best player was Sorin Domşa. On the other hand, Zubaidi Izzat Aizat Amrin's play was disheartening. Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. However, Sølve Lunde made a disastrous appearance.
