Grilled 5 - 0 MOWKIWA

It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd that came out to the stadium today. The weather was sunny, which meant perfect conditions for technical players in both teams. However, it was also quite warm, which meant quick or physically strong players were drained faster and couldn't play their best game. They fielded: Salmiņš - Carapaica, Jeftić - ter Berg, Mohammad Harun, Xin Lee, Chuan Yong, Kamel - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Egan.

The following players had been selected: Pilla - Uğurlu, Emin - Pizzano, Lawrence, Yeshurun, Taylor, Batman - Butler, Mok, Beleck.

Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+6) (26) ability to great effect. Grilled could have put themselves ahead after 6 minutes but Salah Kamel mishit a volley on a ball coming in from the right. The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Chu Xin Lee, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! Grilled were given a penalty after 24 minutes - neatly put away by Mateja Jeftić. 2 - 0 for the home side. The home side's Kalle ter Berg came close to extending the lead after 25 minutes. His shot came in from the right but Antonio Pilla managed to push it wide with his fingertips. Bernie Egan brought the corner down with his chest before whipping it to Chu Xin Lee who had the whole net open before him, but his attempt hit the post. Halftime score was 2 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 58 percent possession in this half was spot on!

With the clock showing 60 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Salah Kamel looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Heng Dong Chu, though he would have liked to continue. Grilled solidified their lead at the 61 minute mark, as Mateja Jeftić snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 3 - 0. After 64 minutes, the MOWKIWA coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Stanley Lawrence off. Prince Freeman took his place. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, MOWKIWA's Serdar Uğurlu finally got himself booked for a foul. It was obvious that Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Heng Dong Chu bringing the lead up to 4 - 0. 68 minutes into the game, MOWKIWA wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Serdar Uğurlu gave Adriano Stepp a quick hug as he left the field. As Serdar Uğurlu left the field, the coach signaled to Adriano Stepp to start taking the set pieces that occurred. 74 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a MOWKIWA substitution. Cino Cicco came on for Nathaniel Butler. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Douglas Carapaica reluctantly made way for Bhavya Panigrahi. Grilled managed to extend their lead to 5 - 0 when Chu Xin Lee slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. 88 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Moey Xin Seng came on for Vikram Mudaliar. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 beyond the regular 90 minutes. MOWKIWA kept trying to force their way through on the right side and Liam Yeshurun got his chance after 89 minutes, but the home side's defense held their position and stopped the attack. The match ends 5 - 0. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 58 percent possession of the ball.

Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Bhavya Panigrahi today. Most important MOWKIWA player was Liam Yeshurun. I can't remember Antonio Pilla ever having a worse night than he just had.
