The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Grilled Birds, went for a 2-5-3, while Basf has decided to play a 4-4-2 lineup. Grilled displayed their ability to play creatively.
Mauro Atamian stayed close to
Chan Ze Han, trying to obstruct his game and the gambit has paid off for Basf. Grilled's
Chu Xin Lee has always shown the ability to do what no one expects him to do... this time he ran over an opposing defender, snatched the ball and passed to
Chan Ze Han who hit it hard into the wide open goal: 1 - 0! Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors.
Moey Xin Seng was able to squirm through the central defense after 20 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 2 - 0. After a play down the right 27 minutes into the match, Grilled's
Mateja Jeftić unleashed a ferocious shot that smashed into the roof of the net - after going over the crossbar. Basf's coach was furious with
Franco Bertellotti after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. 35 minutes into the game, Grilled's
Sølve Lunde tried to nail the coffin shut, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 37 minutes on the clock after
Salah Kamel's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though. After 38 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Basf found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to passable (6). The home side's
Chan Ze Han came close to extending the lead after 39 minutes. His shot came in from the right but
Nery Alberto Navarro managed to push it wide with his fingertips.
Mateja Jeftić struck a 30 yard free kick home after 40 minutes. 3 - 0 for the home team. 3 - 0 was the halftime score. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 60 percent possession of the ball.
A review of the gameplan helped Basf get back to a solid (7) organization to start the second half. 56 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as
Chu Xin Lee ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 4 - 0 for Grilled. Grilled's
Salah Kamel had a good first touch on the flank, but was quickly closed down so he crossed to
Kalki Parvathaneni who somehow managed to curl the ball wide. After 59 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
Chu Xin Lee might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However,
Nery Alberto Navarro made a spectacular save.
Vikram Mudaliar had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 85 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. The game was close to savage at times, and Grilled's
Salah Kamel received a second yellow card after 86 minutes; his ticket to the dressing rooms.
Mateja Jeftić's curling free kick almost found the goal for Grilled, but the visitors' keeper somehow managed to get ahold of it. The fourth official announced that there would be 3 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 4 - 0. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 60 percent of possession.
Grilled's top performer was clearly
Vikram Mudaliar. Good thing
Manuel Vadalà isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The most outstanding Basf player was without a doubt
Luiz Antonio Mazza. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Mauro Atamian today.
