KK 0 - 2 Grilled
The 77370 spectators at
Tarpots Rec. were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Nico Cadore was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Andrzej Dybcio and
Karwan Chovan. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players had been chosen by KK:
Kuruvilla -
Vázquez Acevedo,
Damaskinos,
Keng Ping,
Revilla,
Baldoni -
Cousot,
Hui Yau,
Bruś,
Molenda,
Šlauf -.
Grilled fielded:
Salmiņš -
Lunde,
Jeftić -
Kamel,
Mohammad Harun,
ter Berg,
Xin Seng,
Parvathaneni -
Egan,
Ze Han,
Mudaliar.
It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 5-5-0 formation while the visitors instead opted for 2-5-3. KK mostly relied on their world class (13) long range shooting ability. Grilled used their divine (+8) (28) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
Diego Germán Revilla did everything in his power to contain
Bilal Mohammad Harun from having an impact in the game. A risky tactic, as
Diego Germán Revilla was often pulled away from his starting position in the process. Grilled's
Bernie Egan had seen it all before, so he waited patiently for the right opportunity. He would get no better chance than the one he took, but his shot was deftly blocked by the keeper. Some mind-boggling play by
Yip Keng Ping almost resulted in a goal for Grilled, but
Chan Ze Han's shot rebounded off the post.
Bernie Egan came close to putting the visiting team one up 34 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
SS Kuruvilla managed to tip the ball to a corner. Deep into his own defensive territory,
Rodrigo Vázquez Acevedo outdribbled first one, and then another, opponent, to find himself with a golden opportunity of time to turn the direction of play around for his team. With 35 minutes gone,
Edward Bruś suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by KK caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. The visiting
Moey Xin Seng was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 36 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. The home crowd cheered when, after 37 minutes,
Bernie Egan's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
Edward Bruś was in no condition to play on. He left the field limping after 38 minutes, with his left thigh bandaged. The replacement for the injured player was
一樹 (Kazuki) 新井 (Arai). As
Edward Bruś left the field, the coach signaled to
Yip Keng Ping to be the new set pieces taker. Halftime score was 0 - 1. Grilled had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.
Vikram Mudaliar was, after 60 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
SS Kuruvilla made the save. 79 minutes in, KK's
Kristof Cousot received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. A slight injury to his right calf muscle meant
Jānis Salmiņš had to leave the match early. It happened after 80 minutes. The player that took his place was
Manuel Vadalà. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Mateja Jeftić reluctantly made way for
Bhavya Panigrahi on the pitch.
Mateja Jeftić was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that
Bhavya Panigrahi got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills.
Kalki Parvathaneni came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
SS Kuruvilla but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. 85 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 2 as
Kalki Parvathaneni finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
Kalki Parvathaneni wanted to play on, but the Grilled coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 85 minutes into the game by
Heng Dong Chu. The incalculable
Yip Keng Ping of KK did everything right as he set up
Radovan Šlauf for a goal after 86 minutes. Unfortunately, the strike missed its target. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 0 - 2. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 61 percent of possession.
KK's top performer was clearly
SS Kuruvilla.
Diego Germán Revilla on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled.
Manuel Vadalà was a disappointment, however.
