Warriors 1 - 3 Grilled
During the pre-game press conference, the manager of Grilled was caught teary-eyed, proclaiming an undying love for the Club and its glorious history. It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 74186 that came out to
Tarpots Rec..
Erwin-Christian Harbach was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Luis Fernández and
Alfredo Granieri. For some players the sunny weather was bad news. It made Powerful and Quick players a bit sluggish. For Technical players, it was instead an advantage, allowing them to shine on the pitch. The match took place on neutral ground. Warriors's starters:
Nastasi -
Mohd Umar,
Simonsen,

The following players had been chosen by Grilled:

Lunde,

Egan,
Mudaliar,
Xin Seng.
The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team East Coast Warriors went for 5-3-2 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Warriors were relying on their titanic (15) ability to counter-attack. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle.
Patrizio Nastasi looked great 21 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
Heng Dong Chu.
Fynn-Paul Drelles showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Warriors after 22 minutes to make the score 1 - 0. 27 minutes into the match, Grilled's
Vikram Mudaliar demonstrated his famed speed as he raced past his marker and passed the ball to
Bernie Egan who chipped it in for 1 - 1. 28 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
Vikram Mudaliar, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
Vikram Mudaliar came close to putting the visiting team one up 29 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Patrizio Nastasi managed to tip the ball to a corner. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 30 minutes in when
Bernie Egan came up alone against
Patrizio Nastasi who managed a block. The visiting
Bernie Egan was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 33 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Warriors, but
Julien Gallard's shot went over the bar. It was 1 - 2 at the break. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 69 percent of possession.
A penalty was awarded after 49 minutes, and
Mateja Jeftić made the most of his chance to put Grilled up by another goal. 1 - 3 for the visitors. After 57 minutes,
Salah Kamel slowly got up on his feet, clutching his left thigh, but eventually signalled that he was ready to play on.
Salah Kamel would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 75 minutes. 75 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Bhavya Panigrahi came on for
Mateja Jeftić. As
Mateja Jeftić left the field, the coach signaled to
Bhavya Panigrahi to be the new set pieces taker. After 79 minutes,
Kalle ter Berg suffered a slight injury to his left calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game.
Patrizio Nastasi got a fingertip on
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong)'s shot from the left 86 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. The bench was restless, and with 89 minutes passed Warriors's coach gave
Choo Ping Chun the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
Franjo Marčić reluctantly left the field. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Warriors's
Julien Gallard was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 89 minutes.
Liew Tian Yi was given a chance to change things around. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes.
Sølve Lunde could have put his team up another goal 89 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. The match ends 1 - 3. Grilled had most of the ball, with 71 percent of possession.
Warriors's best player was
Patrizio Nastasi. However,
Liew Tian Yi made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Vikram Mudaliar.
Bhavya Panigrahi was a disappointment, however.
