Kadoorie 7 - 6 Grilled
6374 spectators arrived at
Kadoorie Hill Stadium, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Mario Vanzini was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Gilberto 'Hattrick' Gámez and
Mufeed Al Dhaaen. Kadoorie's starters:
Holzgerlingen -
Lyngby,
Echeandía -
Ţărnă,
Gausdal,
Minh Anh,
Greenhalgh,
Topan -
Zermati,
曉澤 (Xiaoze),
成林 (Chenglin).
The following players had been chosen by Grilled:
Law -
Lunde,
Webb -
敬龙 (Jinglong),
Xin Lee,
Mohammad Harun,
ter Berg,
Kamel -
Egan,
Ze Han,
Xin Seng.
The teams both lined up their players in 2-5-3 formations. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle.
Sølve Lunde couldn't do anything to stop the technically gifted
Zakaria Zermati as he dodged past on his way to scoring a wonderful goal for Kadoorie - 1 - 0! Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Grilled levelled the score after 5 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as
Sølve Lunde struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. Kadoorie took the lead 25 minutes into the game by 2 - 1, as
Vũ Minh Anh elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. The visitors didn't give in and, after 29 minutes,
Chan Ze Han got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 2 - 2. After 33 minutes, Grilled's
Bilal Mohammad Harun made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 2 - 3. With 34 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 2 - 4 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
Kalle ter Berg. The home crowd were delighted when
Dud Greenhalgh scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 3 - 4. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure! Halftime score was 3 - 4. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.
46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Manuel Vadalà came on for
Cameron Law. 50 minutes in, and Kadoorie were able to score the equalising goal to make it 4 - 4 when
Zakaria Zermati picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. Kadoorie took the lead 52 minutes in, as
Espen Lyngby broke through on the left and put the 5 - 4 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. Grilled's
Salah Kamel's long shot really ought to have found the net 60 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Salah Kamel from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 61 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 63 minutes in, Kadoorie's
Harun Topan received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Grilled showed their counterattack skill 70 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with
Bernie Egan scoring uncontested for 5 - 5. Grilled's
Chu Xin Lee took a knock to the head after 79 minutes, due to a badly executed header. He took a few uneasy steps, but got dizzy and then taken off the field. This gave
Teo Chuan Yong a chance to take to the field instead. After 80 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Gilbert Webb off the field.
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) took his place. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 81 minutes into the match, and
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 5 - 6 for the visitors. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Kadoorie coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Dud Greenhalgh reluctantly made way for
林 (Lam) 銘誠 (Mingcheng) on the pitch. As
Dud Greenhalgh exited the field,
Harun Topan volunteered to be the new set pieces taker. Kadoorie needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 89 minutes
Espen Lyngby made way for
龐 (Pang) 如敬 (Rujing). With 89 minutes played, the Kadoorie coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
林 (Lam) 其勇 (Qiyong) came on,
Endrich Holzgerlingen had to leave the fray. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The crowd roared in delight as
葉 (Yip) 曉澤 (Xiaoze) finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Kadoorie 90 minutes into the match. 6 - 6. As neither team was able to break the deadlock before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time. Grilled had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
Around 96 minutes into the match,
Jan Gausdal used his impressive physique to maintain complete control over his defensive midfield. This caused an Grilled attack to fizzle out with a whimper. 100 minutes into the match and the home team took a 7 - 6 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Kadoorie was
葉 (Yip) 曉澤 (Xiaoze). The match ends 7 - 6. Most important Kadoorie player was
龔 (Kung) 成林 (Chenglin).
龐 (Pang) 如敬 (Rujing) turned in a dismal performance, however. Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han. However,
Manuel Vadalà made a disastrous appearance.
