Grilled 5 - 1 Digitalcom

It was a scorching day at the stadium today. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. The following players took the field: Salmiņš - Lunde, Jeftić - Xin Lee, Chuan Yong, Mohammad Harun, ter Berg, Dong Chu - Parvathaneni, Ze Han, Xin Seng.

They fielded: Musica - Moser, Bogdanov - Colasanto, Armaş, Gylfason, Nieminem, Di Tullio - Diacon, Venco, Cvetković.

As the teams spread out over the pitch, it became clear that they would both be using a 2-5-3 formation today. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+8) (28) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 13 minutes on the clock after Kalle ter Berg's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Grilled player a yellow card though. Sølve Lunde is making an astonishing dash. The fans are chanting his name. You can hear it reverberate around the stadium. Now a manic sprint up the middle and into the box. Oh! He's thrown open the door! He's thrown open the door, shot the ball through, and slammed the door shut on Mr. Tumnus! Grilled has taken the lead 18 minutes into the match, 1 to 0. There'll be no Turkish Delight after the match for the keeper! The swift technical skills of Völundur Gylfason were often too much for the tall but somewhat slow Kalle ter Berg who was humiliated after 31 minutes. He'll be breathing a huge sigh of relief after the final shot went wide. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors. Kalki Parvathaneni was able to squirm through the central defense after 33 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 2 - 0. Kalle ter Berg could have put Grilled up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 34 minutes. 35 minutes had passed when Grilled put themselves up 3 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to Chan Ze Han, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. It was 3 - 0 at the break. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 59 percent possession in this half was spot on!

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Mateja Jeftić gave Bhavya Panigrahi a quick hug as he left the field. Mateja Jeftić was coming off, and had taken his last free kick for the day. That meant Bhavya Panigrahi got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. 46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Salah Kamel came on for Chu Xin Lee. The visitors replied 55 minutes into the game, reducing the lead to 3 - 1, as Danilo Cvetković dashed up the middle and chipped the ball over the home team's keeper. After 65 minutes, Nicolae Armaş sprinted between the opposing defenders and laid the ball off to Paolo Venco, whose shot was saved by the keeper. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Chan Ze Han bringing the lead up to 4 - 1. With 73 minutes played, Moey Xin Seng could have brought this one home for Grilled as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. A great save by keeper Augusto Musica with 74 minutes gone kept the visitors in the game after Kalki Parvathaneni struck from the left with a real cannonball. After 75 minutes, Teo Chuan Yong put Grilled ahead 5 - 1 when he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side. Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defense were able to clear the ball. With the clock showing 80 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Moey Xin Seng looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Bernie Egan, though he would have liked to continue. Chan Ze Han was handed the Grilled captain's armband. Digitalcom's Diego Diacon was shown a yellow card after 82 minutes for slicing down an opponent. It was announced by the fourth official that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 5 - 1. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.

The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Bhavya Panigrahi today. Paolo Venco performed admirably for Digitalcom. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Riccardo Colasanto seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
