Grilled 9 - 1 Radiance

Weather conditions were pretty good for football today. They fielded: Salmiņš - Lunde, Jeftić - Xin Lee, Chuan Yong, Mohammad Harun, ter Berg, Dong Chu - Parvathaneni, Ze Han, Xin Seng.

The following players took the field: Ghirardo - Coriale, Ungredda - Asaro, Campeol, Lancellotti, Pileci, Appio - Barattini, Mulargia, Brambilla.

Both teams came out with a similar approach to the match, having chosen to start with a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+8) (28) ability to attack in the middle. Radiance decided to play creatively. The referee signaled a penalty for the home side with 2 minutes gone, amid vocal protests from the visitors. Grilled fans erupted in celebration as Mateja Jeftić rifled the go-ahead goal into the top right hand corner. 1 - 0! Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Cheers filled the stadium as Bilal Mohammad Harun broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 2 - 0 goal for Grilled. A wonderful trick by Paolo Lancellotti after 26 minutes left Bilal Mohammad Harun bewildered and really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors. Chu Xin Lee was able to squirm through the central defense after 27 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 3 - 0. 28 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as Kalle ter Berg ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 4 - 0 for Grilled. Was that a pass or a bad touch? Either way, the inexperienced Sølve Lunde almost gave Radiance a goal, but luckily they couldn't capitalize on the mistake. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Kalle ter Berg bringing the lead up to 5 - 0. Halftime score was 5 - 0. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 66 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Chu Xin Lee off. Salah Kamel took his place. With the clock showing 46 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Mateja Jeftić looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Bhavya Panigrahi, though he would have liked to continue. As Mateja Jeftić left the field, the coach signaled to Bhavya Panigrahi to be the new set pieces taker. Grilled put themselves up 6 - 0 when Kalle ter Berg broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. That was his third goal of the match - a hattrick for Kalle ter Berg! That's the name of the game! With 66 minutes played, Radiance's Paolo Lancellotti received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. Grilled solidified their lead at the 67 minute mark, as Kalki Parvathaneni snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 7 - 0. Kalle ter Berg seemed to be defying gravity as he elegantly headed in a goal for Grilled after a corner kick that was nicely executed by Bhavya Panigrahi. That makes it 8 - 0. Chan Ze Han should probably have put his team up another goal after 78 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by Carlo Ghirardo kept the visitors in the game. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Moey Xin Seng reluctantly made way for Bernie Egan. Chan Ze Han was handed the Grilled captain's armband. After 81 minutes, Grilled sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached Kalki Parvathaneni, who had plenty of time to shoot and score - 9 - 0. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The visitors' right side was dangerous today; Nicola Appio made the home team's keeper look foolish as he easily scored, reducing the gap to 9 - 1 after 90 minutes. The match ends 9 - 1. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 66 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Most important Grilled player was Chan Ze Han. Good thing Bhavya Panigrahi isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Giancarlo Campeol performed admirably for Radiance. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Matteo Coriale today.
