Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 40 minutes on the clock after Mátyás Kokas's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Odessa player a yellow card though. It was 0 - 1 at the break. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 60 percent of possession.

The visitors nearly scored again after 49 minutes, but a superb save by Fritz Reigsecker kept Bhavya Panigrahi's free kick out of the net. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Odessa's Ejnar Juul finally got himself booked for a foul. As the 60 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
