Beng 1 - 9 Grilled

It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 36422 that came out to Singa Arena. Arnaud Le Mer was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kastus' Uroda and Fabio Moscato. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players had been chosen by Beng: Hummer - Alcázar, Hartmann, Liniņš - Kurzreiter, Echenique, Ranta, Jančák, Haluško - Cini, Burgau.

Grilled fielded: Salmiņš - Webb, Panigrahi - 敬龙 (Jinglong), Mohammad Harun, Xin Seng, Chuan Yong, ter Berg - Mudaliar, Egan, Ze Han.

Ah Beng FC started the game in a 3-5-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Beng used their mythical (17) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle. The guests took the lead 22 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in Kalle ter Berg scoring to make it 0 - 1. 24 minutes into the game, Grilled were awarded a penalty and Bhavya Panigrahi was able to increase the visitors' lead to 0 - 2 rolling the ball in by the right post. After 27 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Bilal Mohammad Harun a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3. The visitors' Bhavya Panigrahi took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 30 minutes into the match. 0 - 4 for Grilled. Grilled increased their lead after 34 minutes when Moey Xin Seng broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 5, much to the home crowd's dismay. Halftime score was 0 - 5. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 66 percent of the time.

As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) reluctantly made way for Chu Xin Lee on the pitch. The Grilled free kick 47 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of Chu Xin Lee, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 0 - 6! After 56 minutes, Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 7. 68 minutes in, Beng's Jozef Haluško received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. After 68 minutes, Teo Chuan Yong suffered a slight injury to his right calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game. The referee signalled a penalty 74 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box. Bhavya Panigrahi knocked it home to make the score 0 - 8. At that, Bhavya Panigrahi was noted down for a hat trick! Beng players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Beng's Hugo Burgau cut towards the middle after 77 minutes, receiving a brilliant pass and slicing through the visiting team's central defence, reducing the lead to 1 - 8. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Kalki Parvathaneni came on for Teo Chuan Yong. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Bernie Egan from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 81 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let Mateja Jeftić replace Bernie Egan after 89 minutes. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 4 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. After 90 minutes, following yet another great corner, Chu Xin Lee's flick on at the near post reached Gilbert Webb, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick. After 91 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Chan Ze Han who increased Grilled's lead to 1 - 9. The match ends 1 - 9. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 67 percent.

Hugo Burgau performed admirably for Beng. Alfredo Alcázar was a disappointment, however. Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. On the other hand, Chu Xin Lee's play was disheartening.
