KK 0 - 3 Grilled

Dark skies made the crowd of 30531 at Singa Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Arnoldo 'Fast Eddie' Barboza was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Renato Friargiu and Claus Josua Nierhaus. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players had been chosen by KK: Talib - Correa, Keng Ping, Damaskinos, Puig, Frouin - Bruś, Hui Kwang, Hui Yau - Molenda, Cousot.

The following players took the field for Grilled: Salmiņš - Webb, Panigrahi - 敬龙 (Jinglong), Parvathaneni, Xin Seng, Chuan Yong, ter Berg - Mudaliar, Egan, Ze Han.

Kang Kong fielded a 5-3-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. KK were relying on their world class (13) ability to counter-attack. Grilled used their divine (+6) (26) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Grilled took the lead 13 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. Kalki Parvathaneni was the scorer. Grilled's Kalle ter Berg soared above the crowd, but couldn't knock the corner home 23 minutes into the match. The home crowd cheered when, after 24 minutes, Chan Ze Han's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, Vikram Mudaliar would have put Grilled up another goal 31 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. Good work by the KK defensive line after 32 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found Edward Bruś alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. 34 minutes in, Grilled's Bhavya Panigrahi received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Chan Ze Han of Grilled displayed some of his fantastic technical abilities when he brought the ball down neatly using his instep before nutmegging the bewildered Kostas Damaskinos and smashing an unstoppable shot past the goalkeeper to make it 0 - 2. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. With 38 minutes played, Vikram Mudaliar nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. It was 0 - 2 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 65 percent of the time.

Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let Heng Dong Chu replace Kalle ter Berg after 46 minutes. The visitors almost increased their lead after 53 minutes when a sweetly hit free kick looked like it was heading for the top corner. However the keeper managed to get a fingertip to it, sending it over the bar. A superb free kick by KK's Olivier Frouin after 58 minutes looked like it'd reduced the lead after it hit the underside of the bar and bounced down over the line, but to the fury of the home crowd the linesman missed it - no goal! After 64 minutes of game time, Bernie Egan had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but Solihan Talib was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner. 82 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as Moey Xin Seng finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) wanted to play on, but the Grilled coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 82 minutes into the game by Chu Xin Lee. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from Vikram Mudaliar after 83 minutes, and prevented Grilled from going up another goal. The referee announced 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 0 - 3. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 65 percent of the ball.

Szczepan Molenda performed admirably for KK. On the other hand, Solihan Talib's play was disheartening. Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. Bhavya Panigrahi turned in a dismal performance, however.
