Tampines 1 - 2 Grilled

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 31187 to Singa Arena. Hulagu Damdinsuryn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gianrico Pagnan and Nazarii Zubchenko. The match took place on neutral ground. Tampines fielded: Kiong Yeng - Keng Beng, Leong Yau, Kamarul, Ahmad, Hock Kuan - Brown, Tse Nie, Shi Yeng, Mohd Amin, Chang Ah -.

The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Salmiņš - Webb, Panigrahi - Xin Lee, Mohammad Harun, Xin Seng, Chuan Yong, ter Berg - Ze Han, Egan, Parvathaneni.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 5-5-0 formation while the visitors instead opted for 2-5-3. It was obvious that Tampines were using their outstanding (10) pressing skill as their primary tactic. Grilled used their divine (+7) (27) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. After 1 minutes, the Tampines coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Chew Chang Ah off the field. Kang Leng Huat took his place. At this time in the match, Tampines were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. With 18 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Chan Ze Han put the ball away for 0 - 1. After 34 minutes of play, Wong Hock Kuan equalised for Tampines after an elegant attack from the right. Grilled took the lead 35 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle. Gilbert Webb was the scorer. Tampines's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. The pressing tactics used by Tampines were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Tampines's Ghani Mohd Amin was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 40 minutes. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 67 percent of the time.

The home crowd cheered when, after 49 minutes, Moey Xin Seng's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. 54 minutes in, Tampines's Ng Leong Yau received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. It emerged that Wong Hock Kuan had hurt his right foot after 56 minutes, which led him to abandon the game. Wan Lukman Hafiuddin Azib had already been warming up, and came on for Wong Hock Kuan. Zakariyya Kamarul was handed the Tampines captain's armband. Grilled's Chan Ze Han made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 64 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. As the 69 minute mark approached, the Tampines coach decided it was time for a substitution. Kang Leng Huat reluctantly made way for Nie Tze Chao on the pitch. Chan Ze Han came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over Koh Kiong Yeng but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. With 85 minutes played, Teo Chuan Yong nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. Tampines's Israel Brown got himself booked for a foul. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 69 percent of the ball.

Israel Brown performed admirably for Tampines. Wan Lukman Hafiuddin Azib was a disappointment, however. Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. However, Chu Xin Lee made a disastrous appearance.
