Grilled 9 - 0 Atlantidi

Clouds darkened the skies at the stadium today. The following players took the field: Salmiņš - Panigrahi, Jeftić - Chuan Yong, Xin Seng, Xin Lee, Kamel, Dong Chu - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Egan.

Lineup: Zanni - Arlati, Fagnant-Cady, Montenegro - Ntaikos, Smith, Farina, Šarközy - Farina, Corrente.

Grilled Birds fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For Atlantidi, the formation of choice was a 3-4-2. Grilled went for a narrow approach, using their divine (+6) (26) ability to focus their attacks down the middle. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. After 19 minutes cheers broke out as Moey Xin Seng found his way through the guests' central defensive line, rattling the 1 - 0 goal in off the woodwork for Grilled. 22 minutes into the game, Atlantidi had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to inadequate (5). A cross coming in on the right hand side left Leonardo 'Dionysos' Farina alone in front of the goal after 24 minutes but his shot wasn't taken well. Grilled solidified their lead at the 32 minute mark, as Chan Ze Han snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 2 - 0. After 33 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Atlantidi found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to weak (4). Cheers filled the stadium as Chu Xin Lee broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 3 - 0 goal for Grilled. Juan Mario Montenegro got left behind when Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar made a sudden rush forward in minute 36, finishing it off with a clinical strike. 4 - 0! A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Bernie Egan bringing the lead up to 5 - 0. Grilled added another goal to their lead as Chan Ze Han struck home for 6 - 0 after an attack from the left set him up unmarked in front of the keeper. 6 - 0 was the score after the first half. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 62 percent of possession.

The Atlantidi coach might have gone through a whole marker putting the playbook up on the board, but it seemed to have worked, with the team regaining a passable (6) organization for the second half. 46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Kalle ter Berg came on for Chu Xin Lee. 59 minutes in, Celestino Corrente made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but Jānis Salmiņš refused to let the ball slip by him. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Teo Chuan Yong gave 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) a quick hug as he left the field. 76 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as Salah Kamel ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 7 - 0 for Grilled. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Atlantidi's Johan Arlati finally got himself booked for a foul. 79 minutes in, Atlantidi appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only weak (4). 82 minutes into the match, the Speedy Gonzalez-like Vikram Mudaliar easily outran Juan Mario Montenegro to knock in the 8 - 0 goal. Mateja Jeftić had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 84 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. With the clock showing 85 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. Bernie Egan looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for Prokop Mottl, though he would have liked to continue. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The clock read 90 minutes and things were deteriorating for the away team as Grilled scored another to make it 9 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for Vikram Mudaliar. That was his third goal of the match - a hattrick for Vikram Mudaliar! That's the name of the game! The match ends 9 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 64 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Grilled's best player was Chan Ze Han. Good thing Prokop Mottl isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Dwayne 'The Black' Smith performed admirably for Atlantidi. I can't remember Johan Arlati ever having a worse night than he just had.
