AFC 0 - 9 Grilled

It was a cloudy day at the stadium today. The following players took the field: Stanchev - Harvey, Ančevskis, Mathias, Loesch - Bullemer, Herrasti, Neese, Sarmiento, Martins - Slezák.

They fielded: Vadalà - Panigrahi, Jeftić - Chuan Yong, Xin Seng, Xin Lee, Kamel, Dong Chu - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Egan.

Arsenal 1886 FC fielded a 4-5-1 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 2-5-3. AFC demonstrated their creative tactics on the field. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle today. Bernie Egan of Grilled was able to make an impressive run past the sluggish Eduardo Harvey, which resulted in the 0 - 1 goal. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as Moey Xin Seng put one through the keeper's legs. 0 - 2 after 20 minutes. Chan Ze Han tipped the corner kick right to the keeper, who mishandled it, giving Grilled's Heng Dong Chu a chance to knock it in for 0 - 3. A thrilling play through the middle after 25 minutes gave Grilled's Salah Kamel a chance to increase the lead, and he happily obliged. The score was then 0 - 4. With 36 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 0 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was Mateja Jeftić. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a Grilled goal with 37 minutes gone, making it 0 - 6. Bernie Egan was noted down as the scorer. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. After 39 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Bernie Egan who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 7. That made three goals for Bernie Egan. He'll be taking the match ball home with him having scored a hattrick! The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 7. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 78 percent possession in this half was spot on!

After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Chu Xin Lee off. Bilal Mohammad Harun took his place. The game had been going for 57 minutes when Moey Xin Seng broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 8 for Grilled, much to the home crowd's dismay. Salah Kamel came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but his attempted chip over Toma Stanchev just kept rising and landed in the relieved crowd. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Teo Chuan Yong reluctantly made way for 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong). The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 72 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because Bilal Mohammad Harun had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. The visitors' 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) took advantage of a mix-up between the home side's goalie and center backs 84 minutes into the match. 0 - 9 for Grilled. 89 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Mohd Jafni Abdul Majid came on for Heng Dong Chu. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time, they welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. Bernie Egan was, after 89 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper Toma Stanchev made the save. The match ends 0 - 9. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 78 percent possession of the ball.

Radek Slezák performed admirably for AFC. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Antonio Alberto Herrasti today. The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt Chan Ze Han. Speaking of stinking up the place, Mohd Jafni Abdul Majid sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
