It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 3-5-2. Grilled clearly preferred using their divine (+7) (27) ability to attack in the middle today. Slack defending gave Grilled a chance to take the lead with 21 minutes played, but
Vikram Mudaliar's cross from the left flank was met gratefully by the opposition who cleared it to safety. Vannin's
Zacary Ward managed to lose the defenders as he burst through the right side and scored, putting the visitors ahead, 0 - 1.
Mateja Jeftić's free kick after 27 minutes should have scored for Grilled, but the visitors' keeper just managed to get a hand on it. After 34 minutes, Vannin's
Thomas Pré burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. With 35 minutes played, Vannin put themselves up 0 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
Victor Tabac. Grilled's
Bernie Egan found himself alone on the left side 40 minutes into the match and launched a marshmallow of a shot - right into the arms of the keeper. What a turkey! The away team's fans are gobbling it up! With 44 minutes played,
Bernie Egan was very close to reducing the deficit for Grilled with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot for a corner. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 60 percent possession in this half was spot on!
46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Salah Kamel gave
Kalle ter Berg a quick hug as he left the field.
Alcides Santos Mota was doing a great job on the wing, sending in a brilliant pass to his teammates in the middle, but
Edgar Svensson seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. With the clock showing 60 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Bhavya Panigrahi looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Gilbert Webb, though he would have liked to continue. Given a free kick from a ways out after 67 minutes, Grilled sent an arching ball into the penalty box. It was headed clear, but
Chan Ze Han was waiting just outside the area and fired it home to make it 1 - 3. The referee showed Grilled's
Kalle ter Berg the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 75 minutes into the match,
Amedeo Bertossio came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. After 77 minutes, Vannin began to show their lack of experience and they threatened to wilt under the heavy pressure from their opposition. Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng sliced towards the middle after 79 minutes, receiving a sensational pass and carving through the visiting team's central defense, putting the goal away to make it 2 - 3. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) came on for
Kalki Parvathaneni. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. 81 minutes into the game,
Mateja Jeftić came close to leveling the score with a dangerous shot from the center of the area that went just over the bar. After 82 minutes of play,
Mateja Jeftić evened things up for Grilled with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 3 - 3. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when
Florian Wildfellner slipped through the left defense to come up alone against
Jānis Salmiņš, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning-fast reflexes. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 3 - 3. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Teo Chuan Yong today. The most outstanding Vannin player was without a doubt
Edgar Svensson. Speaking of stinking up the place,
Nemesio Llancamil sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
