Villains 5 - 4 Grilled

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 77898 to Singa Arena. Nikolay Vúlchkov was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gust Hermes and Róbert Moldován. The match took place on neutral ground. Villains's lineup was: Čutka - Martinič, Saad, Gallardo - Hanák, Sletner, Huiet, Laurent, Khramenkou - Siczek, Klarič.

The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Salmiņš - Webb, Panigrahi - ter Berg, Mohammad Harun, Xin Seng, Chuan Yong, Dong Chu - Ze Han, Egan, Parvathaneni.

Villains F.C. fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+7) (27) level with that tactic. Majeed Saad was unable to continue, following a slight injury to his left knee after 3 minutes. Foong Shi Soon had already been warming up, and came on for Majeed Saad. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 8 minutes allowed Kalki Parvathaneni to score for Grilled. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. A lovely run by Grilled's Bernie Egan left his markers for dead and should have resulted in a goal, but the finish went just wide. With a shot curled in from just outside the middle of the penalty area after 29 minutes played, Timotej Klarič of Villains made the score 1 - 1. Grilled took the lead 33 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle. Kalle ter Berg was the scorer. Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Villains, but Vladimír Hanák's shot went over the bar. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Villains's Jens Sletner came in from the right after 38 minutes and put the ball in the net to level the score at 2 - 2. 2 - 2 was the score after the first half. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

The visiting Kalle ter Berg was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 49 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 2 - 3 was the score. The referee showed Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The crowd roared in delight as Ciprian Huiet finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Villains 59 minutes into the match. 3 - 3. Bogdan Siczek gave Villains the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 4 - 3 After 74 minutes, Villains began to show their lack of experience and they threatened to wilt under the heavy pressure from their opposition. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Gabriel Gallardo squirmed through their central defence after 77 minutes, increasing the lead to 5 - 3. In an effort to secure the lead, Villains changed their tactic after 77 minutes. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The home team's fans were upset when, after 80 minutes, the visiting Bernie Egan broke through the central defence and kicked the ball past the keeper. 5 - 4 was the score. The referee announced 4 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 5 - 4. Grilled had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.

The most dominating Villains player was without a doubt Timotej Klarič. Foong Shi Soon on the other hand, had a terrible day. Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. Bhavya Panigrahi was a disappointment, however.
