Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Pendle Hill Conures lined up in a 5-3-2. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+6) (26) ability to attack in the middle. A extra-terrestrial (16) level of counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of PHC. With 2 minutes played
Moey Xin Seng almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. Grilled created a good opportunity to score 4 minutes into the game when
Bernie Egan's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, but the visitors' defenders eventually won out. Grilled's
Chu Xin Lee has the innate ability to create chances out of thin air. 27 minutes in he jumped up and tried a bicycle kick, knocking the ball straight past the keeper, resulting in the 1 - 0 goal. With 37 minutes played,
Salah Kamel could have brought this one home for Grilled as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. PHC's counter-attack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Somehow, the referee's cards remained in his pocket - a terrible decision!
Malcolm Mimura's resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper. Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates 42 minutes in. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up coming through the center. 43 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as
Chan Ze Han ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 2 - 0 for Grilled. It was 2 - 0 at the break. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 73 percent possession of the ball.
After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Chu Xin Lee off.
Bilal Mohammad Harun took his place. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's
Bernie Egan bringing the lead up to 3 - 0.
Bernie Egan increased Grilled's lead to 4 - 0, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. 70 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) came on for
Teo Chuan Yong. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Grilled solidified their lead at the 71 minute mark, as
Salah Kamel snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 5 - 0.
Chan Ze Han should probably have put his team up another goal after 72 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
Krastyo Adamov kept the visitors in the game. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Heng Dong Chu reluctantly made way for
Mohd Jafni Abdul Majid. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 1 minutes as stoppage time. Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors.
Bernie Egan was able to squirm through the central defense after 89 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 6 - 0. That was his third goal of the match - a hattrick for
Bernie Egan! That's the name of the game! The match ends 6 - 0. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 73 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Most important Grilled player was
Chan Ze Han. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Mohd Jafni Abdul Majid today. The most outstanding PHC player was without a doubt
Krastyo Adamov. I can't remember
Tor Helge Myklebust ever having a worse night than he just had.
