United 1 - 5 Grilled

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Singa Arena saw a crowd turnout of 63595. Vicentino Madureira was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Severin Selm and Wolf Utters. The match took place on neutral ground. The following players had been chosen by United: Teck Tong - Jia Wen, Bartalis, Ting Woon, Sepin - Obaseki, Lauritzen, Nilo, Boudin, Goretzka - Joseph.

The following players took the field for Grilled: Salmiņš - Webb, Panigrahi - ter Berg, Mohammad Harun, Xin Seng, Chuan Yong, Dong Chu - Ze Han, Mudaliar, Parvathaneni.

The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Cats United went for 4-5-1 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for United on this day, taking advantage of their divine (20) level with that tactic. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+7) (27) level with that tactic. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when Kalki Parvathaneni was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 3 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead! After 7 minutes, Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. Vikram Mudaliar of Grilled was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. After the ball was lifted in from the left, Kalki Parvathaneni was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 22 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni was shown a yellow card after 24 minutes for slicing down an opponent. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. After 25 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Kalki Parvathaneni a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2. The home crowd were delighted when Danny Joseph scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 1 - 2. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure! The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 70 percent.

Kalle ter Berg received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 60 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 3. The Grilled fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The visitors' Bhavya Panigrahi took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 60 minutes into the match. 1 - 4 for Grilled. The Grilled players could smell victory in the air. Chan Ze Han wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for José Luiz Velho after 61 minutes. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let Chu Xin Lee replace Kalle ter Berg after 61 minutes. Li Ting Woon twisted his arm after 71 minutes, but the United player had no trouble continuing the game. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. 74 minutes into the match, José Luiz Velho came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. United's counterattacks created a good chance for Villads Lauritzen on the right after 75 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. With 76 minutes played, Moey Xin Seng nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. With 78 minutes played, Grilled's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to Bilal Mohammad Harun he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 1 - 5. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 2 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 5. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 69 percent of possession.

The most dominating United player was without a doubt Villads Lauritzen. However, Low Teck Tong made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's top performer was clearly Vikram Mudaliar. Chu Xin Lee on the other hand, had a terrible day.
