Forever 2 - 9 Grilled
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 51855 that came out to
Singa Arena.
Sigmund Kvamme was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Martin Klement and
Jules Lokonde. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. The match took place on neutral ground. Forever fielded:
De Geronimo -
Giustacchini,
Yong Ming -
Gąsiewski,
Cárdenas,
Minoodt,
Dogger,
Miró -
Sutrisno,
Kardeş,
Hilmi.
Grilled's starters:
Vadalà -
Webb,
Panigrahi -
敬龙 (Jinglong),
Mohammad Harun,
Xin Lee,
Chuan Yong,
Xin Seng -
Ze Han,
Mudaliar,
Parvathaneni.
As the teams prepared to start the match, they both lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Forever saw most attack opportunities on the wings, taking advantage of their outstanding (10) level with that tactic.
Gerardo Minoodt caused mayhem in his own defensive line with some mad dribbles within his own penalty area, but Grilled's
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong)'s shot went just wide. The guests took the lead 17 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in
Chan Ze Han scoring to make it 0 - 1.
Patryk Gąsiewski made one of his many fine passes from the wing into the middle 28 minutes into the match.
Irfan Sutrisno bravely attempted to execute a diving header and the ball was met firmly with his forehead for Forever. 1 - 1. Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi gave the visitors a 1 - 2 lead after 34 minutes with a superb strike from the right. The visitors'
Chan Ze Han took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 35 minutes into the match. 1 - 3 for Grilled. After 39 minutes, Grilled's
Gilbert Webb burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 4.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) wanted to play on, but the Grilled coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 39 minutes into the game by
Heng Dong Chu.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that
Bhavya Panigrahi got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. Grilled's
Bhavya Panigrahi missed a penalty shot 41 minutes into the contest. The shot produced was way too weak, allowing the keeper to collect it at his own leisure. Forever caught their opponents out with a clever counterattack down the right wing 42 minutes into the match.
Irfan Sutrisno was able to finish off the move - 2 - 4. 2 - 4 was the halftime score. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 81 percent of possession.
46 minutes into the game, Forever wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Irfan Sutrisno gave
Daniel Choo a quick hug as he left the field. Maybe due to the uphill battle the team was facing, the Forever manager looked to change things around. After 46 minutes,
Uthman Hilmi and
Emin Kardeş swapped positions on the field. After 49 minutes, Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni swiftly ran past
Luigi Giustacchini and nutmegged the keeper! 2 - 5.
Chan Ze Han left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 50 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
José Luiz Velho was the replacement.
Chu Xin Lee received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 59 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 2 - 6. The Grilled fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
Óscar Miró would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Goh Yau Chi entered the game for Forever as the match clock showed 75 minutes. With 76 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 2 - 7 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
José Luiz Velho. Some fine movement on the left led to a Grilled goal after 78 minutes, making it 2 - 8.
Chu Xin Lee was noted down as the scorer. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Forever substitution.
Rafał Biczak came on for
Patryk Gąsiewski. Grilled's
Heng Dong Chu's long shot really ought to have found the net 86 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target.
Goh Yau Chi was in no condition to play on. He left the field limping after 87 minutes, with his left thigh bandaged. Forever had no available replacements, leaving the team a man short. After 88 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Kalki Parvathaneni who increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 9. The Grilled players could smell victory in the air.
Manuel Vadalà wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
Louis Vara after 89 minutes. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 2 - 9. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 80 percent of the time.
Forever's top performer was clearly
Igor Cárdenas. However,
Emin Kardeş made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's best player was
Vikram Mudaliar.
Louis Vara on the other hand, had a terrible day.
