Excalibur Lions entered the field in a 4-4-2 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. Excalibur were relying on their titanic (15) ability to counter-attack. Grilled showed off their extra-terrestrial (16) creative tactics. Excalibur took the lead 27 minutes in, as
Mazin Basheer Al-Hanthaly broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. After 30 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
Juan Najarro gave the Excalibur supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 2 - 0. 31 minutes into the match
Mahram Loghmani put Excalibur ahead 3 - 0 with a truly marvelous free kick. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Excalibur, with 53 percent of the ball.
Excalibur put themselves up 4 - 0 when
Aadhira Kothari broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
José Luiz Velho slowly got up on his feet, clutching his right thigh, but eventually signalled that he was ready to play on.
Cristian Delcea had a fantastic opportunity to put Excalibur up another goal 75 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. After 77 minutes, the defensive line of Excalibur created a counterattack through the middle that gave
Mahram Loghmani a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
Heng Dong Chu of Grilled seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 4 - 1 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong). In a rapid move 85 minutes into the match,
Vikram Mudaliar of Grilled lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked
Prokop Mottl who easily hit it home to make it 4 - 2. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy! Excalibur solidified their lead at the 86 minute mark, as
Mahram Loghmani dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 5 - 2. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 3 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 5 - 2. Excalibur claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Mazin Basheer Al-Hanthaly performed admirably for Excalibur. On the other hand,
Enoch Earp's play was disheartening. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Vikram Mudaliar. However,
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) made a disastrous appearance.
