Grilled 4 - 3 Grigi
The 2686 spectators at
The Cooking Pot were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Nestor Leskovich was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Bogdan Kirichenko and
Bernardino Foica. The weather was sunny, which meant perfect conditions for technical players in both teams. However, it was also quite warm, which meant quick or physically strong players were drained faster and couldn't play their best game. The following players had been chosen by Grilled:
Vadalà -
中北 (Nakakita),
Thevar -
田宮 (Tamiya),
ter Berg,
Jaška,
敬龙 (Jinglong),
Dong Chu -
Mottl,
Mudaliar,
Velho.
The following players took the field for Grigi:
Tirone -
Tricot,
Günaltay,
Eckford -
Piacquadio,
Runfolo,
Malaguti,
Fara,
Schneider -
Le Quellec,
De Schryver.
It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 3-5-2. Grilled took a supernatural (14) creative approach on the field. Grigi tried to focus their attacks down the middle, taking advantage of their formidable (9) level with that tactic. Grilled fans held their breath as
Heng Dong Chu scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 1 - 0! 23 minutes into the match
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) put Grilled ahead 2 - 0 with a truly marvelous free kick.
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but
Heng Dong Chu seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. After 32 minutes
Roberto Piacquadio seized on an opportunistic attack from the right, and scored for Grigi making it 2 - 1. The head of
Vikram Mudaliar connected with a corner kick after 35 minutes, and the ball ended up with
José Luiz Velho of Grilled who blasted the ball into the net, making the score 3 - 1. Grilled put in a good effort on the right, but
Vikram Mudaliar saw his volley fly wide of the mark 37 minutes into the game. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grigi, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Grigi were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 40 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to
Marco Runfolo, who smashed it home to make the score 3 - 2. It was 3 - 2 at the break. Grigi had most of the ball, with 51 percent of possession.
The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 51 minutes,
Christophe Le Quellec broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper.
Manuel Vadalà made a great block, though.
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) managed to make an excellent pass from the wing, but
Heng Dong Chu was not as skillful and couldn't finish it off.
Christophe Le Quellec tied the game at 3 - 3 after 67 minutes, when he converted an incredible pass from the right. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. After the regular 92 minutes, the agony of extra time followed. Possession in this half belonged to Grigi, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
It was obvious that team Grigi had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. After 101 minutes,
Vikram Mudaliar came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 4 - 3, giving Grilled the lead. The match ends 4 - 3. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Vikram Mudaliar.
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Grigi player was
Leo Fara.
Jitse De Schryver was a disappointment, however.
