Grilled 6 - 1 Droogs

The rain was pouring down at the stadium today. While a boggy pitch like this was an advantage for physical players, it really didn't help those who relied on speed or technique. The following players had been selected: Salmiņš - Panigrahi, Jeftić - Chuan Yong, Xin Seng, Mohammad Harun, Kamel, Parvathaneni - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Egan.

Starters: de Ron - Łatkowski, Bañuelos - Gashi, Philips, Skosogorienko, Genig, Wojtarowicz - Ducatel, Duarte, Maksimović.

A 2-5-3 was the choice of the day for both coaches. Grilled fans held their breath as Moey Xin Seng gallivanted down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and fired home the go-ahead goal for 1 - 0! Droogs got a chance to level the scores in minute 6 as Tomasz Skosogorienko suddenly found himself free with only the keeper to beat, but the finish hit the bar. Mateja Jeftić increased Grilled's lead to 2 - 0, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Teo Chuan Yong bringing the lead up to 3 - 0. Vikram Mudaliar gave Grilled supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 0 after 35 minutes, following a good exchange of passes on the right that the away team failed to deal with. The Grilled free kick 40 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But it was no mistake - Bernie Egan seemingly came out of nowhere and had miles of space to control the ball and pick his spot. That's 5 - 0! 5 - 0 was the halftime score. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 62 percent possession in this half was spot on!

53 minutes into the game, Grilled were awarded a penalty that Mateja Jeftić converted into a bigger lead without so much as a how-do-you-do to the visiting keeper. It's 6 - 0 now! 60 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Gilbert Webb came on for Bhavya Panigrahi. Moey Xin Seng was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 62 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. Droogs were able to draw a foul with their counter-attacks, but the shot from Colin Philips went into the arms of the keeper. With 66 minutes played, Droogs's Eduardo Duarte received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. The visitors replied 69 minutes into the game, reducing the lead to 6 - 1, as Bartosz Łatkowski dashed up the middle and chipped the ball over the home team's keeper. Coming in from the right, Vikram Mudaliar almost managed to score another goal for Grilled, but his header was kept out by the lightning fast reflexes of the visiting keeper. Eduardo Duarte knew he was in trouble after hacking down an opponent. Despite his pleading with the referee, the Droogs player was shown a second yellow card and dismissed from the game. 89 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Bilal Mohammad Harun gave Radovan Jaška a quick hug as he left the field. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 6 - 1. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 62 percent possession of the ball.

Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled. I can't remember Radovan Jaška ever having a worse night than he just had. Droogs's top performer was clearly Tomasz Skosogorienko. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Nikola Maksimović today.
