Grilled 3 - 1 Katanga

5052 spectators had come to The Cooking Pot this cloudy day. Fred Schwarzwald was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Riku Mertaniemi and Ben Snape. The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Vara - Jeftić, Thevar - Künzler, ter Berg, Chuan Yong, Kamel, Jaška - Nguyen, Mottl, Jian Hui.

Katanga's starters: De Doncker - Djela, Kefeke, Tosenge, Ngeleka, N'Koyi - Schuurs, Manduca, Cavazzano - Ramahy, Pröll.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 5-3-2. Grilled showed off their supernatural (14) creative tactics. Grilled's Leonard Nguyen tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. Grilled made it 1 - 0 as Prokop Mottl got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to Leonard Nguyen who whipped a low drive in off the far post. 30 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Moey Xin Seng came on for Kalle ter Berg. Grilled's Radovan Jaška increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 37 minutes. Grilled's Moey Xin Seng had an excellent opportunity after 38 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! 39 minutes into the game, Katanga seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a poor (3) level of organisation. Chirag Thevar should probably have put his team up another goal after 40 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Zito De Doncker kept the visitors in the game. Katanga bypassed the midfield with their counterattack, leading to a free kick goal by Horace Manduca for 2 - 1. Cédrick Kefeke of Katanga received a yellow card after 42 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. 2 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 72 percent of the ball.

The Katanga players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a passable (6) organisation when the game started again. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Katanga coach decided it was time for a substitution. Jean-René Tosenge reluctantly made way for Martin Mbope on the pitch. After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Leonard Nguyen off the field. Chu Xin Lee took his place. Grilled's Yee Jian Hui swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. Grilled put in a good effort on the right, but Radovan Jaška saw his volley fly wide of the mark 56 minutes into the game. Ruben Schuurs would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Łukasz Chrustek entered the game for Katanga as the match clock showed 60 minutes. 60 minutes into the game, Katanga wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Horace Manduca gave Jonathan Featherstonehaugh a quick hug as he left the field. With Horace Manduca no longer on the pitch, Jonathan Featherstonehaugh took over free kick duty. 65 minutes in, Katanga appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only inadequate (5). With 67 minutes played, Grilled's Yee Jian Hui almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Chirag Thevar would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. 悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 75 minutes. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Grilled's Salah Kamel increasing the lead to 3 - 1. After 80 minutes of the match, the manager still hoped to turn things around. Martin Mbope was ordered to assume a different position on the pitch. He took the place of Zito De Doncker, who in turn replaced his team mate. The referee announced 1 minute of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 3 - 1. Grilled had most of the ball, with 76 percent of possession.

Grilled's best player was Chu Xin Lee. However, Louis Vara made a disastrous appearance. Katanga's top performer was clearly Yann Pröll. Zito De Doncker turned in a dismal performance, however.
