Vivaise 4 - 5 Grilled
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd that came out to the stadium today. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. Lineup:

FC Congo Vivaise trundled out to the pitch in a 3-5-2 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their divine (+8) (28) ability to attack in the middle. With 7 minutes of the match played, a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
Salah Kamel, after dashing down on goal from the left and finding himself with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. The visiting
Kalle ter Berg was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 10 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot from the right by
Chu Xin Lee beat the keeper with 10 minutes played, preventing Grilled from going up another goal. Grilled's
Vikram Mudaliar was shown a yellow card after 16 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
With the scoreboard showing that 25 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after
Moey Xin Seng came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. The counter-attacks of Vivaise were deadly and 26 minutes into the game,
Thomas Faucheux controlled a long pass from the right flank and finished to make it 1 - 1. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Vivaise were very close to putting themselves one up with 55 minutes gone as
Ventzislav Mishev got through on the left, but a lapse in concentration sent the ball wide.
Bhavya Panigrahi came close to putting the visiting team one up 75 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
Per Lundhbo managed to tip the ball over. After 76 minutes, the Vivaise coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Ventzislav Mishev off.
Matti Laitinen took his place. The Vivaise captaincy was handed to
Robert Jansson. After 76 minutes, Grilled's
Chu Xin Lee made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 1 - 2. Vivaise's
Giancarlo Carrera put his head on a fantastic ball lifted in from the left, and scored after 79 minutes to bring the teams level - 2 - 2. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 80 minutes into the match, and
Chu Xin Lee wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 2 - 3 for the visitors. With the clock showing 85 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Robert Jansson looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Alex Vincent, though he would have liked to continue.
Robert Jansson was coming off, and had taken his last free kick for the day. That meant
Alex Vincent got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills.
Per Lundhbo was handed the Vivaise captain's armband. As the 85 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Chu Xin Lee reluctantly made way for
Cyril Künzler. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 beyond the regular 90 minutes. 89 minutes into the match, Vivaise's
Matti Laitinen maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 3 - 3. As neither team was able to score a late winner, the teams took to the field again for extra time. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 61 percent possession of the ball.
A corner kick created massive confusion in the penalty area, with a near-goal by
Ignacio Villa Fernández. At last, Vivaise's
Giancarlo Carrera was able to will the ball into the net. 4 - 3. It was a fine day for
Chan Ze Han down the touchline, and his cross to
Salah Kamel 109 minutes in was executed especially well, but the keeper saved the ensuing shot. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle instead. 112 minutes into the game Grilled's
Kalle ter Berg found a gap in the home side's central defense and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 4 - 4. Everyone had expected a shot from the free kick 113 minutes into the game, but Grilled sent the ball sideways instead, giving
Salah Kamel a clear look at goal with no wall in his way. He sent it through the keeper's legs for 4 - 5! The match ends 4 - 5. Vivaise's best player was
Albert Anim. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Alex Vincent seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
Moey Xin Seng performed admirably for Grilled. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Chan Ze Han today.
