Singapore 3 - 5 Grilled

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 49000 at The Doghouse today. Fernando Gallardo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Syed Al-Emadi and Abe George. Singapore fielded: Mabenda - Svensson, Ciugudean, Wammes - Murthy, Ting Lee, Zhang, Yew Leong, Chu Shun - Matsumoto, Lock.

The following players had been chosen by Grilled: Dob - Webb, Panigrahi - Xin Lee, Kamel, Mohammad Harun, ter Berg, Muthyala - Egan, Ze Han, Xin Seng.

Singapore Big Dogs started the game in a 3-5-2 formation, whereas Grilled Birds lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled used their divine (+8) (28) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Edward Lock, but the Singapore player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! Singapore's Mahesh Murthy was shown a yellow card after 30 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Grilled levelled the score after 31 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as Chan Ze Han struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. Singapore almost scored after a swift counterattack 33 minutes into the game, but Mahesh Murthy put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. The visiting Chan Ze Han was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 37 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. After 41 minutes, Nathan Wammes made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 2 - 2. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Grilled's Bernie Egan after 42 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 2 - 3 lead. 43 minutes in, Grilled's Salah Kamel received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Due to some great work on the right wing Singapore's Mahesh Murthy was able to even the score after 43 minutes to make the score 3 - 3. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 3. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Singapore, with 51 percent of the ball.

Down the middle came Bernie Egan, making a fantastic play that nearly had Grilled take the lead after 57 minutes, but Wicaksana Mabenda preserved the tie. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. 3 - 4 was the score with 78 minutes played, after Chu Xin Lee cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Grilled. Bernie Egan of Grilled took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 83 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 3 - 5. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as Deng Yew Leong tried lifting the ball over keeper Massoud Dob. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar. With 87 minutes played, Edward Lock was very close to reducing the score for Singapore with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot to a corner. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 2 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 3 - 5. Possession in this half belonged to Singapore, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.

The most dominating Singapore player was without a doubt Alex Zhang. Wicaksana Mabenda was a disappointment, however. Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. On the other hand, Neeraj Muthyala's play was disheartening.
