Søccer 1 - 3 Grilled
Due to an all-day shower, the spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog. The pitch was a disaster, due to all the rain. This spelled problems for the more sophisticated players, who usually could rely on speed or technique. For those relying on grit and strength, it actually meant an edge. They fielded:
Ciżmowski -
Tomov,
Sherazi,
Arfa -
Bossu,
Martins,
Mitteregger,
Harinck,
Rouzkhoush -
Benini,
Pavličević.
The following players had been selected:
Dob -
Panigrahi,
Jeftić -
Xin Lee,
Ze Han,
ter Berg,
Kamel,
Dong Chu -
Parvathaneni,
Xin Seng,
Egan.
The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, WFC Søccer, went for a 3-5-2, while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 24 minutes in when
Bhavya Panigrahi found himself alone with
Stanisław Ciżmowski who managed a block. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Søccer's
Safouane Arfa finally got himself booked for a foul.
Ivo Pavličević is making an astonishing dash. The fans are chanting his name. You can hear it reverberate around the stadium. Now a manic sprint up the middle and into the box. Oh! He's thrown open the door! He's thrown open the door, shot the ball through, and slammed the door shut on Mr. Tumnus! Søccer has taken the lead 39 minutes into the match, 1 to 0. There'll be no Turkish Delight after the match for the keeper! Grilled tied it all up, 40 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by
Chu Xin Lee, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defense, making it 1 - 1. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. Down the middle came
Moey Xin Seng, making a fantastic play that nearly saw Grilled take the lead after 53 minutes, but
Stanisław Ciżmowski preserved the tie. After 57 minutes, Grilled's
Heng Dong Chu made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 1 - 2. With the clock showing 60 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Heng Dong Chu looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong), though he would have liked to continue. 60 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Bhavya Panigrahi gave
Gilbert Webb a quick hug as he left the field. Søccer put pressure on the visitors' central defense with 64 minutes played, but
Loghman Rouzkhoush couldn't find an opening. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Chu Xin Lee reluctantly made way for
Cyril Künzler. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a Grilled goal with 89 minutes gone, making it 1 - 3.
Bernie Egan was noted down as the scorer. The match ends 1 - 3. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 58 percent possession of the ball.
Søccer's best player was
Eggert Mitteregger. Good thing
Stanisław Ciżmowski isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
Moey Xin Seng performed admirably for Grilled. I can't remember
Mateja Jeftić ever having a worse night than he just had.
