Grilled 7 - 1 Racing

Weather conditions were pretty good for football today. They fielded: Dob - Panigrahi, Jeftić - 敬龙 (Jinglong), Ze Han, ter Berg, Kamel, Xin Lee - Parvathaneni, Xin Seng, Egan.

The following players had been selected: Codorean - Létienne, Doubrava, Celletta - Žubrickas, Bänteli, Eberspächer, Mustafa, Mikhailets - Maglio, Notaristefano.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for a 3-5-2. Racing mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their mythical (17) ability to attack in the middle. Given a free kick from a ways out after 5 minutes, Grilled sent an arching ball into the penalty box. It was headed clear, but Bernie Egan was waiting just outside the area and fired it home to make it 1 - 0. As quick as a flash, 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) of Grilled lost his man and passed the ball to the wide-open Bernie Egan who easily hit it home to make it 2 - 0. Grilled solidified their lead at the 14 minute mark, as Chu Xin Lee snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 3 - 0. 23 minutes into the game, Racing's attack got through on the right, but Gastone Maglio couldn't control the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms. Everyone had expected a shot from the free kick 31 minutes into the game, but Grilled sent the ball sideways instead, giving Bernie Egan a clear look at goal with no wall in his way. He sent it through the keeper's legs for 4 - 0! That was his third goal of the match - a hattrick for Bernie Egan! That's the name of the game! 33 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defense had to look on as Chu Xin Lee ran straight through, knocking one home to make it 5 - 0 for Grilled. Kalki Parvathaneni gave Grilled supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 6 - 0 after 36 minutes, following a good exchange of passes on the right that the away team failed to deal with. 6 - 0 was the halftime score. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 62 percent possession in this half was spot on!

After 49 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Kalle ter Berg might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However, Costel Codorean made a spectacular save. Bernie Egan's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and this time was no different as he broke free of his man to send an on-target through ball to Chu Xin Lee who knocked it in for Grilled. 7 - 0! That made three goals for Chu Xin Lee. He'll be taking the match ball home with him having scored a hattrick! The Racing coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change their strategy. They weren't going to win with their current game plan, so the Racing coach told his players how to change things up 60 minutes in. Desperate for a goal, Racing's Roberto Notaristefano saw that the home team's keeper was off his line. Coming in from the right side, his chip successfully reduced the lead to 7 - 1. The Racing players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Bhavya Panigrahi gave Gilbert Webb a quick hug as he left the field. As the game started to slip away for Racing, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. 吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) reluctantly made way for Heng Dong Chu. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 beyond the regular 90 minutes. Grilled's Moey Xin Seng had an excellent opportunity 90 minutes in, shooting after bringing down a ball from the right, but he missed the goal by miles! The match ends 7 - 1. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 63 percent possession of the ball.

Moey Xin Seng performed admirably for Grilled. Speaking of stinking up the place, Chu Xin Lee sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Racing's best player was Rico Bänteli. Good thing Mertas Žubrickas isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
