The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Grilled Birds, went for a 2-5-3, while Diablos' Revenge has decided to play a 3-5-2 lineup. The visitors' central defense should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Bernie Egan, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fire a low shot that 5-holed the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! The clock read 33 minutes and things were deteriorating for the away team as Grilled scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
Bernie Egan.
Bernie Egan let loose a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
Roman Miňďar of Diablos received a yellow card after 39 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. Coming in from the right,
Bernie Egan almost managed to score another goal for Grilled, but his header was kept out by the lightning fast reflexes of the visiting keeper. It was 2 - 0 at the break. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 60 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Things were going from bad to worse for the visitors.
Kalki Parvathaneni was able to squirm through the central defense after 57 minutes and score, bringing the lead to 3 - 0.
Kalki Parvathaneni increased Grilled's lead to 4 - 0, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. Grilled solidified their lead at the 66 minute mark, as
Moey Xin Seng snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 5 - 0. As the 70 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution.
Bhavya Panigrahi reluctantly made way for
Gilbert Webb. 80 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) gave
Heng Dong Chu a quick hug as he left the field. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 beyond the regular 90 minutes. After 89 minutes,
Moey Xin Seng put Grilled ahead 6 - 0 when he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side.
Massoud Dob made a brilliant save 89 minutes into the match, blocking a rocket of a shot from
Elias Stol on the right hand side. The match ends 6 - 0. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 60 percent possession of the ball.
Moey Xin Seng performed admirably for Grilled. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Chu Xin Lee seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The most outstanding Diablos player was without a doubt
Ionel-Simion Haţegan. I can't remember
Dave Blais ever having a worse night than he just had.
