Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Mahatma Memorial lined up in a 4-4-2. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+7) ability to great effect. A divine level of counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Memorial. Grilled's Chu Xin Lee tried to break through the middle repeatedly, but the visitors' defenders were just too alert. Ruu Kannosto of Memorial finished off the counter-attack from the left rather easily, making it 0 - 1. After 32 minutes, Grilled's Bernie Egan ran past Bastian Kalkowski like he was standing still to put away the 1 - 1 goal. Some great play up the middle by Grilled led to a chance for Kalki Parvathaneni to get the go-ahead goal with 34 minutes played, but the shot hit the crossbar. After the game, the most discussed event will probably be the penalty awarded after 38 minutes. Despite the controversy, Alfonso Lupatti stayed cool and struck it nicely, giving the visitors the 1 - 2 lead. Moey Xin Seng made a superb effort after 39 minutes after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second to preserve the away lead. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Well, look at this! Cardi B is on the Enormotron in naught but giant sunglasses, red tassles, and a Holy Hand Grenades of Antioch tank top. I've not seen anything like it before. A wonderful trick by Chan Ze Han after 63 minutes left Lampis Chloros bewildered and really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save. 70 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Chu Xin Lee gave Heng Dong Chu a quick hug as he left the field. A series of fine plays up the middle should have led to a goal for Grilled, but Chan Ze Han's shot went over the bar. With 72 minutes played, Bastian Kalkowski knocked one home from a counter-attack down the right wing, making the score 1 - 3. Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni got the home crowd going bananas when he finished off a left wing bull rush, reducing the away team's lead to 2 - 3. After 80 minutes, Bernie Egan went down looking for a penalty after a challenge on the left side of the box, but the referee told him to get up and keep playing. Alfonso Lupatti showed why he is feared on the counter-attack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Memorial after 81 minutes to make the score 2 - 4. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when Moey Xin Seng tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. However, Uzi Kristal was too alert for that! 85 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Bilal Mohammad Harun came on for Kalle ter Berg. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving Mateja Jeftić off. Bhavya Panigrahi took his place. As Mateja Jeftić left the field, the coach signaled to Neeraj Muthyala to start taking the set pieces that occurred. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 2 - 4. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 56 percent of possession. Grilled's top performer was clearly Bernie Egan. Speaking of stinking up the place, Bhavya Panigrahi sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Memorial's best player was Arthur Stéphan. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Uzi Kristal today.
