FC Barca Singapore fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+7) level with that tactic. A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by
Kalki Parvathaneni. At last, Grilled's
Bernie Egan was able to backheel the ball in. 0 - 1.
Vikram Mudaliar received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 9 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Grilled fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. After 22 minutes,
Massoud Dob suffered a slight injury to his left calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game. Some fine movement on the left led to a Grilled goal after 25 minutes, making it 0 - 3.
Chan Ze Han was noted down as the scorer. 29 minutes in, Grilled's
Salah Kamel received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. It emerged that
李 (Li) 偌焯 (Ruochao) had hurt his right foot after 29 minutes, which led him to abandon the game. The player that took his place was
Chen Tong Yun. After 34 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Chu Xin Lee who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 4. After 39 minutes,
Gilbert Webb sent the corner kick right to
Neeraj Muthyala who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0 - 5!
Fernando Julca got a fingertip on
Vikram Mudaliar's shot from the left 40 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. After 41 minutes,
Massoud Dob strained his groin quite severely and had to be helped off the field by the physio.
Manuel Vadalà tried to hide a smile as he entered the field. He had not expected to get a chance this day. 0 - 5 was the halftime score. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 64 percent of possession.
After the ball was lifted in from the left,
Chu Xin Lee was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 56 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. With the scoreboard showing that 68 minutes had been played, Grilled nearly put themselves up another goal after
Bernie Egan came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. The visitors'
Chu Xin Lee took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 70 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for Grilled. After 78 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Chan Ze Han a chance to increase the lead for Grilled, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 7. The Grilled players could smell victory in the air.
Chu Xin Lee wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
Cyril Künzler after 80 minutes. Singapore's
Zachi Gil-Har got himself booked for a foul. After 84 minutes,
Salah Kamel suffered a slight injury to his right calf muscle. However, it was not enough to stop him from continuing the game. 88 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Moey Xin Seng came on for
Kalki Parvathaneni. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 5 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 0 - 7. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 67 percent of the ball.
Singapore's top performer was clearly
Fernando Julca.
Chen Tong Yun on the other hand, had a terrible day. Grilled's best player was
Bernie Egan.
Manuel Vadalà was a disappointment, however.
