FKTK 3 - 2 Grilled

Dark skies made the crowd at the stadium today a little nervous, but the rain held off. The following players took the field: Tóth - Healy, Moser, Traun, Trevilla - Waaka, Hipfinger, Sotir, 晋 (Jin), Pancorvo - Annenkov.

Starters: Dob - Webb, Panigrahi - Kamel, Ze Han, ter Berg, Muthyala, Xin Lee - Parvathaneni, Mudaliar, Egan.

FK Torlak Kumodraž trundled out to the pitch in a 4-5-1 formation. The visitors, Grilled Birds, chose to start the game with a 2-5-3 lineup. For their match strategy, FKTK had decided to use their divine ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+6) ability to great effect. Some great play up the middle by FKTK led to a chance for Jerzy Moser to get the go-ahead goal with 6 minutes played, but the shot hit the crossbar. Chan Ze Han came close to putting the visiting team one up 12 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but István Tóth managed to tip the ball over. The counter-attack by FKTK resulted in a free kick that Mihai Sotir dipped just under the crossbar - 1 - 0! The clock read 15 minutes and things were deteriorating for the away team as FKTK scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for Florian Hipfinger. Grilled's Bernie Egan was shown a yellow card after 26 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Bernie Egan's Road Runneresque speed was too much for Thomas Healy, who could only look on as the Grilled player blasted one home. 2 - 1. Good work by FKTK's defensive line after 32 minutes produced a good counter-attack chance, one of which cut elegantly down the middle of the field and found 关 (Guan) 晋 (Jin) alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. FKTK's Gonzalo Trevilla had an excellent opportunity 36 minutes in, shooting after bringing down a ball from the right, but he missed the goal by miles! Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Grilled leveled the score after 41 minutes to make it 2 - 2, as Vikram Mudaliar struck home after a fine midfield combination through the middle left him completely unmarked. It was 2 - 2 at the break. Grilled had the upper hand in possession, maintaining an impressive 60 percent possession of the ball.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Bhavya Panigrahi gave Mateja Jeftić a quick hug as he left the field. As Bhavya Panigrahi left the field, the coach signaled to Neeraj Muthyala to be the new set pieces taker. 46 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Grilled substitution. Moey Xin Seng came on for Vikram Mudaliar. Chan Ze Han let loose a good shot after 49 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. FKTK's opponents know to be wary of Mihai Sotir's speed, but it made little difference as he blew past the defense 50 minutes into the match. Only the keeper could stop him - and he did with a perfectly timed dive! FKTK caught their opponents out with a clever counter-attack down the right wing 52 minutes into the game. Gonzalo Trevilla was there to finish off the move - 3 - 2! After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, FKTK's 关 (Guan) 晋 (Jin) finally got himself booked for a foul. There was a promising attack by Grilled after 68 minutes, but it was ultimately closed down by the powerful presence of 关 (Guan) 晋 (Jin). As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled manager decided it was time for a substitution. Chu Xin Lee reluctantly made way for Heng Dong Chu. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. Kalki Parvathaneni made a good effort at breaking through on the right, but the home team's left defense cleared the ball to the corner. The match ends 3 - 2. Grilled did a good job holding on to the ball, with 60 percent of possession. We'll be back after these interminable commercial messages.

FKTK's best player was Andriy Annenkov. Good thing Thomas Healy isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The most outstanding Grilled player was without a doubt Kalki Parvathaneni. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Mateja Jeftić seemed to stumble all over the pitch.
