Grilled 4 - 2 Fringeheads
Dark skies made the crowd of 121433 at
Woodside Park a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Halam Kasaballi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Pim Buma and
Dragoş Bangălă. If I am correctly informed, temporary seats had been added in sections throughout the arena, and this had enabled the organisers to sell 19857 extra tickets.
The match took place on neutral ground. The following players took the field for Grilled:
Dob -
Webb,

Kamel,
Xin Seng,
Mohammad Harun,
Muthyala,

Grilled Birds entered the field in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, Sarcastic Fringeheads, chose to start the game with a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+7) level with that tactic.
Andrej Apatič was well positioned to man mark
Chan Ze Han, and was able to take the edge off the Grilled player's game. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Bernie Egan, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Grilled's
Bernie Egan saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 35 minutes. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Cheers filled the stadium as
Chan Ze Han broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Grilled. Fringeheads's
Finn Karlsson excelled in some fine tricks that completely confused
Kalle ter Berg - and the finish was no less spectacular - 2 - 1!
Gilbert Webb could have increased the lead after 39 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng had an excellent opportunity after 41 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! The crowd was silenced 42 minutes into the match as the visiting team's
David Koppensteiner came in from the left, levelling the score to 2 - 2. 2 - 2 was the score after the first half. Grilled had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
Grilled had a chance to take the lead after
Kalle ter Berg's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 55 minutes.
Bernie Egan gave Grilled the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 3 - 2 Proving his experience,
Vikram Mudaliar scored 4 - 2 for Grilled after putting some pressure on the opposing defence at a critical moment. 72 minutes into the game, Fringeheads's attack got through on the right, but
Răzvan Patca couldn't handle the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Fringeheads coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Chew Fu Chuan reluctantly made way for
Hans Heinrich Merkatz on the pitch. As
Chew Fu Chuan exited the field,
Ryan Kerr volunteered to be the new set pieces taker. With 77 minutes played, Grilled's
Neeraj Muthyala almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng was shown a yellow card after 79 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
After 80 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
Salah Kamel might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However,
Radu Pandelescu made a spectacular save.
Ryan Kerr would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Ramsès Prats entered the game for Fringeheads as the match clock showed 83 minutes.
Ryan Kerr was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that
吴 (Wu) 敬龙 (Jinglong) got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. The Fringeheads captaincy was handed to
Zaki Taleb. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 2 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 4 - 2. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.
The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Vikram Mudaliar. On the other hand,
Chan Ze Han's play was disheartening.
Finn Karlsson performed admirably for Fringeheads.
Andrej Apatič turned in a dismal performance, however.
